Travel - Ceder Escape - Epic camp weeking with good friends!

May 2018 · 2 min read · Cederberg Local Municipality

I've been missing from Steemit for 5 days now! In fact, I had absolutely no signal/mobile reception for the last four days... what a blessing. The reason for this was four days of camping on a remote farm near Citrusdal, a small town at the foot of the Cederberg Mountain range in South Africa.

The camp grounds are only five spots big and we booked the entire place for us only. We took our friends with us and all together we were ten adults, eleven kids - ranging from 2 years old to 8 years old - and three dogs. Just imagine, not TV, no shops, no entertainment... just some proper family and friend time in nature.

Every evening we did a "braai"! Basically a barbecue, but meat grilled on open wood fire - a South African's favourite food. Afterwards we took March-mallows on sticks and warmed it up on the coals for desert. The kids absolutely loved it. We also made stick-bread, bread dough turned around a stick and stuck in the fire. Once done, you eat it with maple syrup and butter!

Being extreme joggers, we also worked in two trail runs and a hike up the mountain. We left the kids with our friends and Riana and I explored a trail or two. I also did an epic peak call Middelbergpiek (aka Middle Mountain Peak) with a friend we call "Super Piet" just because he never gets tired. Our trail Jack Russell, Ghost, also did all the trails with us.

In addition to the run, we also did two hikes with the family. One to an epic waterfall and one to epic rock where we did some free climbing. My son absolutely loved the climbing and he was in his element.
