En esta inédita sesión fotográfica te invito a viajar en la máquina fotográfica del tiempo para que aprecies la belleza natural, geométrica y arquitectónica del Parque Güell, construido entre 1900 y 1914 en Barcelona, España. Una modera obra financiada por el conde Eusebio Güell, político, empresario y amante de la cultura y arte que se alió con Antonio Gaudí, considerado el peso pesado de la arquitectura moderna española. In this unprecedented photo session I invite you to travel in the photographic machine of time to appreciate the natural, geometric and architectural beauty of the Güell Park, built between 1900 and 1914 in Barcelona, Spain. A moderate work financed by Count Eusebio Güell, a politician, businessman and lover of culture and art who allied himself with Antonio Gaudí, considered the heavyweight of modern Spanish architecture. No se si era felicidad o asombro ante tanta belleza arquitectónica. Lo cierto es que viví emociones y sentimientos de amor a plenitud. Disfruté al máximo mi viaje a Barcelona y particularmente esta extraordinaria experiencia en el Parque Güell.

I don't know if it was happiness or amazement at such architectural beauty. The truth is that I lived emotions and feelings of love to the fullest. I enjoyed my trip to Barcelona and particularly this extraordinary experience in the Park Güell.

El área de influencia se corresponde con un terreno de 17.18 hectáreas, cuya orogénesis se dio en la Era Paleozoica, durante los períodos Silúrgico y Devónico, siendo su principal composición mineral materiales de pizarra y rocas calizas. Las unidades morfológicas se constituyeron con elevaciones y escarpadas depresiones que limitaron la vida vegetal, de allí que el lugar haya sido llamado montaña pelada, con el poblamiento y presión urbana cambió su nombre a Monte Carmelo, un prominente coloso rocoso que mira a la ciudad de Barcelona desde su eje sur.

The area of influence corresponds to a land of 17.18 hectares, whose orogenesis occurred in the Paleozoic Era, during the Silurgic and Devonian periods, being its main mineral composition materials of slate and limestone rocks. The morphological units were constituted with elevations and steep depressions that limited plant life, hence the place has been called bare mountain, with the population and urban pressure changed its name to Mount Carmel, a prominent rocky colossus overlooking the city of Barcelona from its southern axis.

El conde Güell era hombre de negocios, sabía de biología, conocía de finanzas y tenía confianza en Antonio Gaudí, prominente arquitecto que le había hecho varias obras de envergadura en el pasado, así le encargó diseñar y construir una ciudad jardín; un urbanismo ideal conformado por 60 casas, cuyas parcelas tendrían unos 1400 m² y de esa área se edificaría 240 m² porque el resto sería jardines.

Count Güell was a businessman, he knew about biology, he knew about finance and he had confidence in Antonio Gaudí, a prominent architect who had done several important works for him in the past, so he commissioned him to design and build a garden city; an ideal urban plan consisting of 60 houses, whose plots would have about 1400 m² and of that area 240 m² would be built because the rest would be gardens.

Así que habiendo adelantado las conversaciones sobre el visionario urbanismo, el conde Güell decide concretar la compra del área a edificar, son dos parcelas; una de ellas propiedad del conde de Marianao, un eminente político que en dos ocasiones sería alcalde de Barcelona (1905-1906 y 1910-1911).

So, having advanced the conversations about the visionary urbanism, Count Güell decided to concrete the purchase of the area to be built, they are two plots; one of them belongs to the Count of Marianao, an eminent politician who in two occasions would be mayor of Barcelona (1905-1906 and 1910-1911).

En 1900 se inicia la mega obra que duraría 14 años. Desafortunadamente el propósito último de este desarrollo urbanístico no se concretó, diversos factores influyeron en la cristalización del proyecto, uno de ellos fue el componente económico,el costo de las propiedades oscilaban entre las 25.000 y 37.000 pesetas, una considerable fortuna para la sociedad española de la época.

In 1900 the mega work that would last 14 years was started. Unfortunately the ultimate purpose of this urban development did not materialize, several factors influenced the crystallization of the project, one of them was the economic component, the cost of the properties was between 25,000 and 37,000 pesetas, a considerable fortune for the Spanish society of that time.

Sin embargo, Gaudí desarrolló la construcción de las áreas comunes, jardinerías, pasarelas, escalinatas, plazas, reforestación de ladera y partes que hasta entonces no habían sido utilizadas.

However, Gaudí developed the construction of the common areas, gardeners, walkways, staircases, squares, reforestation of the slope and parts that had not been used until then.

El esplendor creativo del arquitecto estuvo muy influenciado por los aspectos políticos y religiosos con una fantástica armonía que envuelve el lugar.

The creative splendour of the architect was greatly influenced by the political and religious aspects with a fantastic harmony that envelops the place.

Cada elemento físico y natural fue muy bien aprovechado, el componente hidrológico no escapó de sus apreciados y exquisitos detalles arquitectónicos, el estilo greco-romano prevalece en este lugar.

Each physical and natural element was very well used, the hydrological component did not escape from its appreciated and exquisite architectural details, the Greek-Roman style prevails in this place.

Estructuras de piedra caliza, mármol y cerámicas trasladan al visitante a unos 2300 años en la antigüedad, con edificaciones que asemejan los templos y palacios griegos.

Limestone, marble and ceramic structures take the visitor back some 2300 years in antiquity, with buildings that resemble Greek temples and palaces.

Calles empedradas, estructuras y monumentos decorativos que demuestran la creatividad e inspiración del famoso arquitecto; todo bien pensado, diseñado a la medida para que el cerebro y mente se gocen el paraíso utópico que soñó el conde de Güell, quien vivió sus últimos años en esta maravillosa ciudadela.

Cobblestone streets, structures and decorative monuments that demonstrate the creativity and inspiration of the famous architect; everything well thought out, designed to make the brain and mind enjoy the utopian paradise dreamt of by the Count of Güell, who lived his last years in this wonderful citadel.

No conforme con todas las maravillas del urbanismo, Gaudí construyó unos caminos y viaductos aprovechando al máximo la irregular topografía del terreno, estamos hablando de un desnivel de 60 metros

Not satisfied with all the wonders of urban planning, Gaudí built some paths and viaducts taking full advantage of the irregular topography of the land, we are talking about a difference in level of 60 meters.

Hizo adaptaciones al biotopo que parecen haber sido esculpidas por la misma naturaleza.

He made adaptations to the biotope that seem to have been sculpted by nature itself.

Los pedregosos muros de contención y columnas se combinan con la silvestre vegetación para dar apariencia de estar en la época del neolítico.

The rocky retaining walls and columns combine with the wild vegetation to give the appearance of being in the Neolithic period.

Una maravillosa vista desde 210 metros de altura hasta la ciudad de Barcelona; el predominio de la vegetación la tienen los bellos pinos y algarrobos.

A wonderful view from 210 meters high to the city of Barcelona; the predominant vegetation is the beautiful pine and carob trees.

Se trató de un proyecto urbanístico sumamente ambicioso; España no estaba preparada para asumir un cambio tan radical al congregar en una ciudad jardín a la élite y casta más notable de la época. El conflicto ocasionado por la huelga nacional de 1902 afectó significativamente este proyecto; las luchas entre la burguesía y el proletariado que cesan con la trágica semana en 1909 también contribuyen al fracaso.

This was an extremely ambitious urban project; Spain was not prepared to take on such a radical change by bringing together the most notable elite and caste of the time in a garden city. The conflict caused by the national strike of 1902 significantly affected this project; the struggles between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat that ended with the tragic week in 1909 also contributed to the failure.

Pero a mi parecer, el COVID-19 de esta emblemática propuesta lo representa el inicio de la Primera Guerra Mundial en 1914; aquí se paraliza la construcción y se enfría el proyecto. Culminada la guerra y tras la muerte del mecenas Güell,los herederos deciden dar en venta esta propiedad al Ayuntamiento de la ciudad y es así cuando se convierte en parque público.

But in my opinion, the COVID-19 of this emblematic proposal represents the beginning of the First World War in 1914; here the construction is stopped and the project is cooled down. After the war and after the death of the patron Güell, the heirs decide to sell this property to the city council and that is when it becomes a public park.
