Camiguin
Philippines 2013

Camiguin, a relatively large, unspoiled island located off the coast of Mindanao. Formed through hundreds of years of volcanic activity. This pear-shaped land is truly notable for its few but beautiful attractions that are extensively scattered throughout the rest of the island.

Approximately, there are six major natural attractions on the island:

  • Hot Springs
    • Ardent Spring
    • Tangob Spring
    • Bugong Spring
    • Tagdo Spring
    • Naasag Spring
    • Kiyab
  • Cold Springs
    • Santo Niño Cold Spring
  • Binangawan Falls
  • Tuasan Falls
  • Katibawasan Falls
  • White Island

Filipinos and foreigners alike, head to Camiguin for rest and recreation, I can't blame them the island is purely a gem. However, if you are looking for white sand beaches the island can only offer the "White Island", it's not an island per se, it's just a sandbar of white sand accessible during low tide. Due to the presence of 7 volcanoes, the sand is rather brownish to seemingly black.

At present, while the other six volcanoes are inactive, Catarman Volcano or popularly known to many as Mt. Hibok-Hibok, is still considered active. Although, it has been more than half a century since it last erupted (1953). Lastly, one should not miss "The Sunken Cemetery" with a gigantic cross erected in the middle of the sea. Gaze up and be mesmerized by its magnificent height that will leave you both in awe and sadness, as the massive structure's purpose is to commemorate the loss of lives when the whole city was submerged below sea level during a treacherous volcanic eruption.

From my perspective, the captivating island of Camiguin owes its beauty to nature itself. The whole area is just untouched by large-scale tourism adding to its serenity and tranquility.

Dear Steemians, I hope the photo's visually entertaining to you all. In closing, let us always remember, in a time of destruction, let's try to create something.

This is my photo entry for @juliank’s and @photocontests#goldenhourphotography challenge.
