Spring Walk on Hammerknuden, Bornholm

Spring Walk on Hammerknuden, Bornholm

Today me and my mother went on a walk on Hammerknuden or just The Hammer, which is the Northern tip of Bornholm - the Danish island in the Baltic Sea where we now live :)

Just because I like old maps ;P source The hammer shape of the Northern tip gives it the name The Hammer or The Hammer Knot

The old Castle Ruin Hammershus is also placed here, and is what you see in the background on the first photo.
We didn't go to the castle this time, but went for a walk in the other direction :)

The trees here are always subjected to very strong wind from the sea, so most of them are small and crooked, but very beautiful in my eyes.

Many birds live here on the sea cliffs, and every year around this time, bird enthusiasts go to this exact spot to see the birds returning from the winter.

The seagulls are definitely the most dominant though!

The path continues along the coast..

.. and then we went "in-land" to climb up..

To the lighthouse!

And then we came to the grand finale!

The Opal lake, which is the remaining lake after an old granite quarry

It's really quite dramatic to get to that fall after the long path of trees and shrubs.
The second lake is the Hammer Lake, which is a natural lake.

The birds just looked like they had such a nice time flying around and jumping off the cliffs!

And then we went back down to the harbour

And we were lucky that the little café shop on the harbour just opened today. I got a raspberry, pineapple, ginger shake and my mother coffee and chocolate cake with blueberries. Normally I don't do a lot in taking pictures of food, but it was so good! I was quite impressed with the quality, since it was fairly cheap (read: not crazy expensive like most places in Denmark), so I decided to take a picture of my mom in front of the shop, just before the last bite
