Let's travel together #56 - The Living Fire (Focul Viu)

April 2018 · 5 min read · Buzău

Today I'm coming back with another mysterious place that I discovered in my country, which I invite you to read its story. As a while ago I presented you The living stones from Romania, now it's time to also discover The living fire from Romania. Are you curious already?
Let's see!
🤩

The living fire is located in Andreiasu - a little village from Vrancea county, specifically on the left side of Slănic Valley. Unfortunately, although the area is gorgeous, very few tourists come to this place because of the untapped tourist potential. To reach the mysterious area, you can either drive the car until you arrive in the village and from there you will have to walk like 30-35 minutes to the living fire or if you are the adventurous kind you can take the scenic route through the forest enjoying a 1 hour walk full of excitement and cool vibes. It's up to you. 🚶

Once you arrive to the touristic attraction, you may be slightly fooled by the sudden passage from grass to rocks - like, 2 mins ago you where walking on the grass being surrounded by nature and now you woke up in a dead place with many rocks, some puddles and a lot of gravel. The secret is that each one of these hides something really interesting. First of all you have to look very carefully as on a sunny day is really hard to notice the fire which is slowly flickering. But you may get distracted by some scary sounds that are surrounding you, what could it be? 🤔

The puddles you see in the picture on the right represents the first sign that nothing in this place seems to be normal. Small balloons are constantly appearing at the surface of the water being followed by mutters just like the sounds made by someone who is trying to breath underwater. The puddles hide nothing but a lot of underground hydrocarbon deposits. But a light breeze brings a lot of heat to you which makes you pay attention one more to what is surrounding you. And this is the moment when you realize that you are not in a dead place full of rocks but in the middle of a living fire. The area covered by this phenomenon is about 25 square meters so better watch out where you put your feet on on.

The flames of the living fire varies from 10 to 100 cm depending on the time of the year or weather. The little flames are part of a phenomenon that is born due to the emanation of natural gas which comes out through the cracks of the earth's crust forming small fires which gets intensified by the sunlight or lightning bolts. The locators are saying that the living fires are never getting extinguished, not even when it rains or during the winter and more than that, the size of the flames are announcing different moments that may occur - the meaning of the big flames being that there will be an earthquake really soon. Another important aspect is that the playful flames will provide the most beautiful show when the night falls reaching the height of 1,5 meters, the whole ground being covered with small blue flickers that remind me of fantastic Aurora Borealis. 💥

Being hypnotized by the eternally lit torches we almost forget to look around us and enjoy the whole landscape that is described right in front of us. Nearby a little wooden house can be seen which calls you for a moment of rest and a lot of stories. Why so many stories? Because once you get under the roof you will be surrounded by a lot of messages and names of the people who traveled here hardly noticing a blank space. Now that we finally get a few minutes of silence, we can enjoy the beautiful songs sung by the birds who are flying from a tree to another and admire the fresh green landscapes. 🏡

I will end this post by saying that I'm really happy to live in such a country that was blessed with so many miracles and beautiful places which I can present further and let people know about them.
I hope you enjoyed this trip we took together and if you ever get to this place, I would suggest you to spend at least one night in a tent so you can properly enjoy the beautiful game of the living fire.
Till the next time, be sure to explore the world as much as you can - because it has so many awesome treasures that are waiting to be discovered and seen by people.
Stay safe and don't forget to
SPREAD A SMILE!
