Let's travel together #60 - Spotlight 2018 (Bucharest International Light Festival) [Part 2 of a great adventure!]

April 2018 · 8 min read · Bucharest

Today is a special day as I've reached the beautiful number #60 on my Let's travel together series and I love the fact that I can present something different in today's post.
Something more colorful which I'm sure will light up everyone's heart.
Of course the fabulous event that my eyes got the chance to enjoy can't be described with a few pictures and words, but I will try my best.

Let's discover together the 2nd part of a great day!

Spotlight is an international video mapping contest where many professionals and artists from different countries are participating, being ready to color the city for a few evenings with their talent.
It's the 4th year in a row when Spotlight is unfolding in Romania bringing 11 artists who will project different illustrations on some of the biggest and most important buildings from Bucharest.
The event was held between 12-15 April every evening between 8.00-11.00 PM and it brought in the streets around 500.000 people who got fascinated by the beautiful play of lights.
The picture from the right represents the official map from Bucharest containing the buildings where the festival of lights was presented. But let's take them one by one..

Arcul de Triumf is a monumental structure situated on the Kiseleff Road in the north of Bucharest.
The artistic projection was realized by Daniel Margraf from Germany which starts the beautiful show of the festival of lights.

Arcul de Triumf is about 27 meters height and it represents one of the most known symbols of the capital.
The illustration from the sculpture is not random as the projection is reminding about the Romania's Victory from the World War I but also the interesting fact that many victorious forces are walking under it every year such as parades from the National Day.

Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History represents one of the oldest research institutions from our country but also an important place for education and culture for the visitors.
The projection on the museum is realized by the same Daniel Margraf from Germany who shows the theme of the museum - animals.
The museum hides around 2 million different pieces which creates many zoological collections but also osteological, geological, mineralogical and many more, some of them being kept for special scientific reserches.

Illustration realized by Daniel Margraf from Germany.

Revolution Square from Bucharest includes more important buildings that are around but the one you see in the picture represents the the seat of the Senate and also the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform.
The artistic projection was created by Daniel Margraf from Germany and it shows the celebration of 100 years since the great union happened, back in 1918.

I will end this post by saying it was a great day around Bucharest, even though I live in this city for 2 years I always tend to get to the mountains or some wild places, rather than discovering the city.
So 15th April was a beautiful day when I discovered a little bit more of the Romania's capital and it totally worth it.

16KM well spent!
The only thing that I'm sad about is that I haven't managed to see all 27 illustrations created by the artists but that was impossible with 500.000 people in the streets, it was way too crowded.
For a few times we even got lost as the GPS wouldn't work anymore and everyone was running in all directions to see as many projections as they could but it was still fun.
Anyway I'm happy that I could share with you my first experience on Spotlight and who knows, maybe next year I will see all of them.

I hope I was able to bring some color into your life with the help of Festival of Lights and don't forget to spear a smile. 😄
Have a great week(end)!✌️
