Aussie's in New Zealand: Goodbye Queenstown, you've been a blast

October 2019 · 3 min read

We hit the road this morning, southbound initially and then west to Te Anau and brand new adventures. We're probably driving right now, as you read this, enjoying the amazing views here in New Zealand. [Depending on when you're seeing this post though I guess.]

Our stay in Queenstown was, how can I put it...An eleven out of ten! We were over it in helicopters and at the top of snow-covered peaks. In it on jet boats, steam ships and four wheel driving on mountain trails, crystal clear creeks and rivers...We even dug it and found some gold during a little gold-panning sojourn near Arrowtown...We ate, drank a little, spent our 26th wedding anniversary above it at the Stratosfare Restaurant and Bar last night, hiked, sailed boats, found some Lord of the Rings filming sites and generally had an awesome time. A little glance back through my blog will enlighten you a little more if you're keen.

Like all things have a tendency to do though, Queenstown has come to an end, at least until we fly out of here in several days time - But for now it's onward to new adventures in the south-west of this amazing land.

The view we had from the restaurant last night for our anniversary dinner. Seriously, we were right at the glass and if the meal wasn't amazing enough by itself the view certainly made it so.

We are cruising on Milford Sound, checking out the glow worm tunnels by boat and doing some hiking in the Fiordland National Park over the next few days...Plus sitting in the pub around an open fire at night, eating and enjoying a gin and tonic or three.

The drive there is quite scenic I'm told so we will be sure to stop at a few lookouts and points of interest along the way. We're in no hurry today preferring to take a very slow drive to Te Anau, about 171km away from Queenstown. Of course it's a twisty and circuitous road so it's too dangerous to drive very fast anyway. The SUV is fuelled up, windows washed and road-trip snacks are packed - Add in my Spotify playlists and we're set for a cracker of a trip. Country roads, country music and [country] snacks...Something like that anyway!

I'm not sure if I'm boring you with all my New Zealand stuff but it's sort of exciting for me as I really didn't expect to like it so much - I mean I knew I'd like it but not love it as much as I do. Seriously peeps, you gotta get your asses down here! It's no Australia of course, which is awesomely awesome...But New Zealand certainly is one of the most legit places I've been to, and I've been to a lot of places! Make the effort.

Ok, it's time to roll so I'll have to catch you on the other side, from Te Anau! Thanks for all your comments along the way and I hope yo've enjoyed my photos and words so far.
