It's all going to end...But it's not over yet

July 2018 · 4 min read

All things come to an end at some stage and whether we want it to or not time marches on and things change. We have the ability to look backwards in time to support that premise: The dinosaurs and the Ice Age, the Roman Empire, Blackberry phones, freedom of speech...And even England's good form in the recent Football World Cup...They all ended, some more abruptly than others, but end they did.

My vacation to Europe ended recently also. We had a great time exploring the United Kingdom and spent time in Finland with my brother and his family. We are home now, spending time with our two beloved cats and trying to get our body-clocks working correctly before we head back to work in a couple of days. We are pleased to be home with our cats of course, they are like our children really, however if we had the choice we would be back with our family because we miss them so much.

The image below is my brother @tarazkp and myself taken in Finland not too far from where he lives with his beautiful wife @momone and the indomitable @smallsteps, my niece. It was really nice to see them and to spend time getting to see what life is like for them there on the other side of the world. We relaxed and enjoyed each other's company and I also got to experience a little bit of life in Finland.

We all go through our lives day to day and for most of us not a lot of time is spent thinking about the end...of anything really; Life ends, to think otherwise is delusional, and within life many other things end...Employment, relationships, pain, sorrow...Most things. But with endings come beginnings.

The time spent with my family, and more to the point the experiences we shared, will stay with me for a long time, until the next time we see each other I hope. Leaving was difficult however, as a realist, I knew it would be even before arriving there however the understanding that the time we had would end, as all things do, meant that we made the most of what time we had.

It's easy to take things for granted in life these days as we tend to live pretty easy lives however there's always one constant which is that it will end. I will die one day and so will you and all that is left is a memory of you (or me) held by someone else. Sure, some people leave amazing legacies behind them but in the main most of us slip away into history and are eventually forgotten. I believe, for that reason, one must take as much from life as possible whilst we are actually in it, must squeeze life's neck and take the ownership for ones' own journey through life rather than live it by default, happy to allow life to float by without any real active input. I see that as wasteful.

It's easy to allow life to roll out without any real input from ourselves on it's outcome...Corporations and governments control what we see, think and do through the media and for many being told what is fashionable or appropriate for instance is completely fine however I question that and prefer to seek my own truth's, understanding and opinions.

Life ends; Just how far your's (or anyone's) is from actually doing so is unknown but when it does you'll be buried or cremated and it'll be too late to make much of it then. Live it now, own it, get after it and take the responsibility to make it what you would like it to be rather than have someone else dictate it to you. I think you, everyone owe's it to themselves to do so.
