Swimming in the cool waters of Edith Falls is where I'd rather be this #whereonwednesday. Edith Falls is a series of waterfalls and pools situated on the Edith River near Katherine - North Territory, Australia. The nearest major city is Darwin.
Known as the Top End the Northern Territory is a vast and remote part of Australia where sweeping vistas, harsh climates, stunning gorges and coastline, a laid-back lifestyle and some of the most deadly creatures in Australia come together. If you're coming to Australia and don't spend a week up here you are stark raving mad...And not in a good way! 😋
In the wet season this area is completely covered with water and infested with crocodiles but come the dry, the water recedes and access is once more possible.
Of course, the National Parks and Wildlife have to first relocate shoot the crocodiles that have made their way into the pools and billabongs so it's sort of safe for swimmers, but once done it's on like donkey kong. These areas are visited by thousands of people each year and, take it from me, it's something very special.
We swam up to the falls you see in the background of the main image and languished there for a time...We didn't see any crocodile's...If we did we probably wouldn't be here now. Just a word on that...Crocodiles will, can and do kill people all the time. It doesn't make the news here much but it happens quite often. If you head out to these areas don't ignore the warnings and signs. Edith falls is generally safe although I wouldn't want to be the first swimmer in there for the season...We were there towards the end of the dry season so the crocodiles had plenty of time to eat American tourists expose themselves prior to us getting in the water. The temperature was 37 degrees when we were there, about 98F so nice for a swim.
Anyway, that's where I'd rather be and what I'd rather be doing right now. If you want to join in on #whereonwednesday just tag it in your post, on a Wednesday and away you go.
