My first trip , to Shaoxing Ancient Town

March 2020 · 4 min read · 越城区

Do you remember where did you go at your first trip ? 8 years ago , I spent my first trip around Hangzhou(杭州) for 10 days . I remember I need to call back home to report my status everyday .But now , my parents already don't care if I called back , even I leave for few months .

First time travel in an ancient town , saw this old television , feel it so special, really seems back to an old time. Few years later, I found this is a standard setting for an ancient town , all Chinese ancient town you can see the same old television, and writing the same words.

My first stop wasn't Hangzhou, is a ancient town at the south of Hangzhou , named Shaoxing(绍兴). Compare with a modern city , I am more favor a small town .

I was lived in a hostel named 老台门 Hostel, it is an old building keep the style as Ming/Ching Dynasty, and have a short distance with the main attractions. I chose a mix dorm, the price was low at just around CNY 35, but a defect for living in a mix dorm is , some loud snore at night .

The ticket in Shaoxing is one ticket pass , you can visit 14 attractions by one ticket , it valid for 3 days .I just check the most update price , CNY 140, is a low price.

Shaoxing is the home town for Mr. Lu Xun(鲁迅), he is a great writer and thinker in China. He was study hard at childhood, there is a word "早"(means early) on his desk to remind him go to school early .

But if you wanna see this word "早", maybe you will disappoint, because his desk is so far away !

In the old home of Lu Xun, a section use projector to show you how the old citizen's life , I like this very much ,they seems ghost ,it's funny.

Shaoxing is a water village, almost all of their house have a back door connect with rivers. So when you walk around the city, you still can see some residents washing clothes near river.

Wupeng Boat(乌蓬船) is a feature boat in Shaoxing ,you can visit the city by this Boat , and the one ticket pass including one time experience of Wupeng Boat.

I take Wepeng boat at the last day stay in Shaoxing, cause that is not a weekend and early morning, just me waiting boat at wharf . But it was mark "at least two people to sail" on one ticket pass, so I need to wait another one to join me.

I talked with boatman when waiting , but they are all local people , they talked their local language in stand of Mandarin ,even I am a Chinese , I can't understand what they are taking. But we still can understand each other by hand language .

Wait more than half an hour , there still no any people to join me , the boatman felt I wait too long time ,he decided to sail even just me .

Shenyuan Garden(沈园), a place taking about the love story for Lu You(陆游) and Tang Yuan(唐婉). I wasn't interested in love story , but I interested in old Garden ,so I still recommend this site.

The one day pass ticket including "the daytime of Shenyuan Garden" and " Night of Shenyuan", you can visit both time .

At the daytime , the main point is visit garden. At night ,most part of garden were locked , when you walk between frescoes and statues , looking at the old locked doors, you can't control yourselves to feel cold.

And then listening the sad story of Lu You and Tang Yuan, thinking their ghosts are still dating at a corner the garden , so exciting ! So I went at night !

Actually , the main point at night is watch opera ! But I was interested in garden (and ghost), so I walked around the garden before opera start.

The opera also use their local language , so I can't understand . It was taking about the love story of this garden .
