It is no surprise that the simplest of things are often the best. In this episode of Luxury Vagabond I will try to promote what is in my opinion the best invention in the leisure industry.

Yes I am talking about hammock. What is generally lighter package than a sleeping bag and yet can give you in some occasions better use, ideally when the two combined. Last summer was at least for me in the sign of the hammock.

My favorite style of budgeteering - urban camping is almost an art form. There is often lot of elements involved that shape your overall experience and often if you underestimate one part of the puzzle the whole picture collapses and it can end up very costly.

So what are the important aspect of urban camping? First of all, absolutely crucial is to choose the right location to do so. Ideally right on the outskirts of the city or some sort of civilization that provides you with all the necessary modern life amenities. Maybe there is restaurant few hundred meters away? Or a bus stop that can bring you to the city center? Sometimes even simple gas station would do. You just want to wake up as close to the civilization as possible and yet stay undercover as possible.

So, now when we have the location sorted, second very important aspect is timing. Assuming most of us will do such an activity only in Summer when the nights are short and warm, your timing is vital. Never set up your camp before sunset. Generally there are still lot of dog walkers around that time and if seen you can be later harassed by police or those locals themselves. So stay away from the place till you're ready to crash...

Before falling asleep is also quite practical to know where are your most valuable belongings, so in case of an unwanted visitor, you have better chance of getting out of such situation with as low loses as possible. So applying some sort of a trap can be handy, or just simply tying you backpack to a tree or your arm if necessary.

Here on Corfu I had it the easy way. Having my so called mobile home - Volkswagen Polo I only had to pick nice spot to park it safely and have some sort of 'jungle' around to install my hammock. Not only I was able to find my place to camp easily, I could choose from many different. So I didn't give it too much of thought, I kept exploring the island till the dawn and than by chance and with an eye well trained from harder circumstances i was able to have spots I would wake up to absolute beauty, slept like a baby without any interruption or problem.

Of course such method of low-cost travel is not suitable for everyone but if you're young and sometimes want to sleep comfortably on otherwise sketchy places, hammock is the way to go.
