Chronicles of a Luxury Vagabond - The Arrival of the Low Cost Warrior [part 1]

The arrival of the low cost warrior.
The arrival of the low cost warrior.

Let's go and have a look at rather unusual style of traveling. For the lack of better words I will call it luxury vagabonding. While on my last years summer road tripping, I have found a cheap flight from Budapest to Corfu. A Greek island, not far from Albania. In fact you can see both countries from there. So I have jumped on the bus while still in Romania and headed to 'Pest' to catch my flight. One night in hostel as planned was more than enough. Summer still in it's strength made it very smelly experience. Luckily I have found myself on a balcony filming some timelapses of a busy crossroads and kept my mind occupied till the evening came and some Serbian guy approached me.

'Hey, you wanna go out or what?' said the man one head bigger than me and I said yes. The situation made me do it rather happily. Both having our last night in the city, I thought okey, we can't stay too long and it might be a good time killer anyway.

So it turned out that the man was a pothead... So what seemed to be a relaxed walk through the city accompanied with few beers ended up full blown action movie.

I said ok to split the bill if we find something around 15 euro each to have few joints. Well, the man I can't remember the name anymore was more adventurous. Or just plain stupid. After storming the old town and asking everybody who looked kinda hipsterish about weed, somebody points us to the old synagogue. A district full of little bars, narrow streets and dark corners. What appeared to be an hour of time, we finally managed to find a contact. A black Mercedes passing by with open windows. The big man leaned in and got approval. We shall wait there.

After five minutes some guy really comes and goes with the big man in somewhat secure place between two parked cars. I am watching everything from behind the corner while trying to look random...

The two shake hands and we are moving out of the scene. Few blocks away, while listening to the Serb about the quality of the product I make him open the package. The truth couldn't be stranger than fiction. It was soup spices. The big man got scammed... His eyes went out. He was destroyed and wanted to go home.

I didn't gave him any money as it was completely his fault and went back to where we bought the fake weed and drank a beer while listening to live music. I came to better thoughts. well needed before kick starting another adventure the next day.

Everything went smooth after letting the Serbian casualty behind. Made it to hostel safely and the next day was of to the Airport and left Hungary.

Upon arrival, my booked car was already awaiting me and I was ready to begin my luxury vagabonding experience. If you're asking what is luxury vagabonding watch the video report to get the idea and stay tuned for next episode where we will get into more details...
