Finding old mountain bike roads in southern Serbia. Poetic short-read

April 2022 · 2 min read · Serbia

On the way to the wild, one finds oftentimes unexpected surprises. My wandering around the glamping paradise valley happend already some days ago, but maybe for good, I had time to process what to write about it.

The way up

Wouldn't it be for hills and climbs to their summits, there would be no place for the exciting downhills. The true ecstasy of bike riding...

That might be the reason for why us bikers go and challenge themselves in and with the mountains. It is many times sweaty work to get up to those peaks. Specially when using roads decades untouched. It is an adventure for real. With some paths being rather unusable, I often get stuck or experience the hardest part of pushing up unrideable terrain.

It wasn't so true this time. I managed to find a decently well connecting way to my wished destination. What a blast it was after I finally reached the summit and true sightseeing began.

Up in the clouds.

When I got higher to much faster passing terrain, one panorama after another started to pop up like mushrooms after rain. Heck, I almost had to remind myself to watch the road more...

The bush was blooming green and the road was almost blocked by it at places. Clouds played theater high up there and the atmosphere couldn't be more cliché.

The road led me over and above two waleys. Once up it was a smooth rollercoaster, full of small ups and downs with occasional traps full of young pointy bush, pretty sketchy to get around safely. Specially to get by without a flat tire. Some places it was on such a level that I rather got down not to spill some air. That eventually happened but very slowly and after a long downhill back on asphalt road I noticed I am leaking some air after two beers in local kiosk.

Local rural architecture greeted me on my way back to civilization and I enjoyed plenty of it while repairing my flat tire. Locals were watching me and later we were discussing life together. Before you know it it was afternoon and time to go back to base.

All the best,
