Natural wonders in and around Flims, Graubunden. - LAAX stories #2

June 2022 · 3 min read · Switzerland

Hey fellow Hivers, Steemers and all the other degenerates... Globallocal is reporting from Switzerland again! This time I will take you on a lazy Sunday walk up in the mountains surrounding the village Flims.

There was actually an enduro race on that day and I even thought I might want to participate. Not as a racer, but in the form of support - to get some goodies in exchange of my help. Oh, how happy I was not to do it and go up there on my own just as an observer. The volunteers had to stand all day long along the trail, making sure none of the hikers get in the way of riders...

Watching the race would be one thing, but the nature around is actually full on attraction on its own.

The river Flem supplies the town Flims with fresh drinking water and hydroelectricity.

The valley through which this river flows is full of meanders, rocks and trees that fallen down from the high cliffs around. Me and my newly find friend Bob had the privilege to explore the area on what was really one of the first proper summer days out here in Swiss Alps.

We really planed on watching the bike race in the first place, but as its sometimes goes we showed up late, the race was almost over and to my surprise, wasn't even worth the while. Nevertheless, we made it out "into the wild" pushed our comfort zones a little and started enjoying the day with a plan B - nature!

On our way around the bike trail, there were more things to be seen than sweaty bikers in full protection gear. From strawberries and mushrooms of all sorts to slimes and other weird nameless insects - we were blown out by the variety of elements that wanted to attract our senses.

Nature takes it's time, but always delivers sheer uniqueness.

The river Flem is pretty damn cold. Imagine the melting iceberg supplying the whole valley with ice cold water. No complaints, it is the reason why it is so clean. A little lower on the way to the town again, we encountered a small lake. I do not know the name of it as it is barely to be spotted on the map.

Although when you're passing by, you can't miss it. For that it is big enough. Not really purposed for swimming, the lake was empty and resembled some far away place in Sweden or something.

Striking blue waters of Switzerland are proudly represented even by a random "pond".

The most popular lake suitable for swimming around here is called Caumasee. We will for sure visit that place together in some blogs to come as that lake is so nice, tourists has to pay to enter. So there will be plenty to show you in a whole episode...

Until that time,
