The Big Athenian Odyssey - Official Trailer (2020)

October 2020 · 2 min read · Attica

First leaked footage of the upcoming documentary on two dudes meeting up in Athens on a so called "business trip" while traveling on a budget in the summer of 2019...

Fresh into the new year I have finally found the right time to get into editing my first ever attempt for a documentary. Not knowing a specific topic, I have taken it as it goes and a new experimental genre was created. Might call it vlogumentary, gonzovloging or mockumentary.

So without further a due, here is the background story.

What seems like the last normal Summer, driven by boredom of the normal life, me and my friend traveled a bit. First on a surf trip to Morocco, than biking on Ibiza, to met yet again in Athens for a very budget business meeting.

Staying mostly in hostels, we try to see what the city has to offer for free or relatively tight stop loss... Greece being one of the middle income countries is dangerous for big spenders. For the price of frappe a sky is the limit and it only depends on you cheeky skills to recognize a trap. The myth about typical Gringo is alive and well in Greece and there are some businesses waiting for unaware tourists.

So we payed it safe. Possibly on 20 to 30 euros a day with cheating on public transport and driving escooters downhill without an app. Every little discount helps. Than we can spend some money in a club or pub on weekend wooohaa.

Athens are almost like one big construction site being stuck in time. Specially the historical monuments looks like of a need for a renovation. Well what the heck, we are not gonna bother paying for entry anyway so what is the big deal. Just the feeling people really flying around to look at the specific buildings and take a picture standing next to them? Pardon me...

So we were looking for another type of Athens. The unpopular and unseen city of Greek people. The picture not from your average postcard. Alternative traveling at its best. Blending with the local people with our attitude, camera and hustle to get the most out of it. Getting some clips of local life in the capital city of very iconic nation and still to this day an amazing place to live or visit thanks to its climate and position.
