Krakow Train Graveyard [Part II - More Photos]

Krakow Train Graveyard [Part II - More Photos]

December 2018 · 3 min read · Krakow

Krakow's a beautiful city, and one that is full of surprises.

In Part I of this Steemit series, I talked about first discovering a train graveyard just out of Krakow, as first pointed out to me by @For91Days.

Part II, here, will run through a few thoughts and share photos taken on the day, alongside our dear Dutch friend @guchtere.

As luck would have it, the weather was beautiful clear blue sky!

Getting stuck in, @for91days, wasted no time in climbing aboard with a one-way ticket to some fantastic photos.

That was an awful pun, I can only apologise.

Still, though, the weather was crisp and dry, with a slight but not overwhelming chill on this bright November morning.

I wasn't sure how the weather would treat us during a Polish Winter, in mid November, but it was a very pleasant temperature and the sun led to enjoyable photographic conditions.

One of the most interesting elements of our visit was the fact that despite having been on trains literally hundreds of times in my life, I still managed to discover a new sense of perspective and appreciation for their complexity.

Take the photo below; these no doubt antequated wheels and shafts are not necessarily the type of thing that would exist on more modern, electrical trains, yet they represent a physical mastery and hold beauty in their own right.

Here below, we see @for91days getting involved once more. You can see many of his photos of the day here. Incidentally, his photography skills are far better than mine!

It all seemed so peaceful and quiet...

The attack of the drones!

Ok, not quite.

As it happens, all three of us had brought our drones and wished to fly them around the trains. This is unsurprising, given the somehwat rare chance to film inside a train graveyard.

What you see in the photo above is @guchtere's Mavic Pro drone, entering the frame to film the trains around us.

Soon it was time to have a try myself, with my DJI Spark, the baby brother of the Mavic Pro.

Thanks to the kind @guchtere for taking (and letting me post) this photo of me, @goodwithtravels, and my steely glaze as I focus on flying.

And so concludes Part II of my Krakow Train Graveyard series.

Come back soon for Part III, a look at the same area from the sky.
