Loy Krathong Festival is held all over Thailand every year in the month of November it is one of the most impressive festival's held in Thailand. It is one of the most famous festival's amongst Thai people and foreigners been such a colorful and spiritual event.
"Krathong" is a Thai term which refers to a piece of banana trunk decorated with flowers, banana leaves, candle and incense sticks. The word "Loy" means to float in the Thai language. When put together, those two terms simply mean floating banana trunk festival.
I was quite surprised this year they actually had some different designs of the Krathong floating banana trunk they seemed to have adapted some western design by added like a Barbie doll or maybe to resemble a Thai culture dancing lady in the floating basket which looked quite cute and impressive actually.
These floating baskets made me laugh ice cream cones and different colored cheesezols the fish in the rivers and lakes would be loving this one dessert on the menu this year...lol 🤣
Loy Krathong is celebrated on the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month which normally falls on a day in the November month. The festival is a way to be thankful and respectful to the Gods of the waters for the gift of water which is essential for our existence without it we could not survive or thrive. This is a very important traditional festival for all Thai people.
The Thai people believe that on Loy Krathong all misfortune and bad lucks that you have had in this year will float away along with the floating Krathong on a river. They would place a bit of their finger nail or a hair of there head in the floating Krathong as they sent it of down the river they will pray and think about something positive that can happen in their future normally they will pray for happiness , joy and good luck in there coming year.
This year i celebrated Loy Krathong with some close friends that live in a apartment block by the ChaoPhraya river across from the IconSiam shopping mall after seeing the fireworks we popped down to the IconSiam center to watch the water fountain show beautiful and colorful it was.
I had to capture a picture of the full moon shining above us and thank it for bringing us a great night.
This event honestly makes you fell cleansed of all bad luck and misfortunes that has happened to you during the year and makes you feel much happier and joyful within youself and around your friends.
