One day in Da Nang: Happy Heart Cafe, fisherman’s beach and Chùa Bửu Đài Sơn Temple

April 2020 · 4 min read · Da Nang

As I told on this previous post, I believe that the secret of happiness in life is work and life balance. So, I’m trying to join in one day a bit of both! Since I’m based in Da Nang, Vietnam, for a while, these are some tips for digital nomads or anyone to enjoy the city without without losing the focus on your tasks! Hope that you enjoy it!

Get the work done and enjoy some pancakes at Happy Heart Cafe

All right! So, if you want to start your day in a very positive way and also want to get some work done, I highly recommend you to visit Happy Heart Cafe. This place is a charming cozy cafe, located close to My An Beach and they serve amazing western options for your breakfast, such as pancakes, cinnamon rolls, bagels and more! They also have great options for lunch, so you can have amazing meal while you work.

This cafe has also a special story behind it. Don’t know if you know, but during the Vietnam war, Da Nang was a huge deposit of agent orange. This chemical was used for americans to kill the plantations and jungles turning Vietnamese people more vulnerable to the attacks. After years, however, they discover that this herbicide was carcinogenic and it was the main cause why so much people in Vietnam were born with disabilities. In Da Nang, which the airport was the main area for storage of this chemical, still have people that suffers the consequences of it.

Happy Heart Cafe, however, show us how can a lemon become a lemonade. On the cafe all people that work are disable and they for sure will serve you not just an amazing food, but also the best and kind service you will find in Da Nang.

The cafe is small, but they offer great and comfortable seats and plugs for you to put your laptop. Try to go there during the week, since it's not so full and you can finish your work, without stolen the spot of someone else who wants to enjoy this amazing cafe!

Take a walk and enjoy the fisherman’s beach

After finishing your work, I recommend you to have a big walk around the beach, but not on the touristic part… Go more to the end, in the direction of Lady Buddha and you’ll find the fisherman’s beach. Definitely it's not a place to have a sunbath or jump into the sea. But it's an amazing place for contemplate the local life and see how the locals live.

You will see around this beach a bunch of blue boats that are used to go to deep sea but also you’ll see small rounding boats which are very traditional. On the sunset this place is really beautiful.

Enjoy the colorful temple of Chùa Bửu Đài Sơn

Close to this beach you will also find a very colorful and beautiful temple. It’s called Chùa Bửu Đài Sơn and it’s very interesting because it's a traditional Vietnamese Buddhist temple. The architecture and the colors are really beautiful and they also have some orchids and lotus flowers around that makes this place very nice. The calm inside the temple is also good and will make you feel more relaxed and zen!

Try Ban Xeo: the incredible Vietnamese pancake

After get some work done and enjoy the local life, nothing better than try some local food! In this case I highly recommend you to go to Miss Nhi to try some Ban Xeo. Many people say that Ban Xeo is a Vietnamese pancake, but I don’t think so… However, it’s quite complex to explain what is a Ban Xeo. But basically it’s a kind of a dough made with rice flour, turmeric, and water. The dough is filled with shrimps, pork and sprouts then cooked with a piping hot pan.

Ban Xeo: exotic an delicious

Don't Forget: Get Travel Health Insurance!

Eating Ban Xeo is kinda a ritual. You need to pick up the pancake, opened it into a leaf of rice paper then filled with lettuce, herbs, onion, green banana and mango. After this, you must roll everything and dip into a peanut sauce, which is made with peanut butter and soya sauce plus different spices. Sounds crazy? Different? Exotic? Yes, it is! But also delicious!

Now, make a roll!!!

As I mentioned before, I really believe that secret of happiness is work and life balance. So, I really believe that on days like that you can enjoy and also hustle a bit, doing your best for both!
