Love from strangers, a strange term for someone like me. Especially when I have grown up in a place where it is not a norm to invite strangers to your home.
Since I started cycle touring I have felt complete independence, but also vulnerable to the people on my road. At the mercy of what their true intention really are when inviting me to their home. Are they all serial-killers? Will they lock me in a basement for the rest of my life?
So far their only motivation seems to be a bit different. In fact, most of them just generously wanting to help a tired cyclist out with a shower, food & a bed for the night.
The feeling of hospitality from a stranger, influences me to do the same.
I want to feel how it is to be like them, find the true core of what they are getting from inviting a stranger to their house.
It's not long time ago before this bike trip I found a short opportunity to invite a German couple to my home, sadly they had other plans but the feeling of asking them still remained.
I felt good, and I'm sure it would have felt even better if I was able to provide them with a tasty meal and a bed to sleep in. Maybe because I know their situation and how amazing experience it is.
It just surprises me how little it takes to make someone's day or journey better and I guess that's what it comes down to?
It's not really hard to do, it doesn't take much. But the people who recieve this generosity, will probably sit years from now thinking back on how nice it was they were invited to a strangers home.
At least that is how I feel.

The true core of why I love cycling
It's interesting what I remember from my trips;
The true core of why I love cycling, The nature is beautiful, the food is great.. but most of all it is when people spontaneously invites me to their home
It is that moment where a person comes up to me and tells me without even having spend more than a few minutes in my presence:
Come to my home, because I trust you.
