Country of lions and islands or the Republic of Singapore

August 2018 · 6 min read · Southeast

I suggest you continue your acquaintance with Southeast Asia. With its history, culture, riddles. And today the theme of our discussion will be the country of lions - the Republic of Singapore!

Traveling to Singapore takes a special place in my treasury. There are many reasons for this. First, every trip is already a treasure, because it is filled with emotions, memories of adventure! Secondly, Singapore was in my Bucket list. And thirdly, this trip is a small gift to herself in honor of the completion of student life in Korea.

Of course, it is better and more profitable to travel to Southeast Asia when you live in Asia. Although, it is not always possible to get out of the habitat or it is difficult to get out. So, Singapore was almost the first country in southeast Asia, which I visited for 5 years of life in South Korea. Why almost the first? Because the first was Malaysia, which was the first point in my route.

And all this was no accident. I'll explain why ... To visit Singapore, you need a tourist visa. BUT! There is one small BUT, which we used with friends. If you visit Singapore in transit, then you do not need a visa. That is, if you come to Singapore from country A, and leave it, leaving for country B, then you can not bother with visa problems . The main thing is to have time to see the city for 96 hours.

The capital of beautiful Singapore is the city of lions </ strong>, this is how the word "Singapore" translates from Sanskrit. Yes, Singapore is the capital of Singapore. It is difficult to say what territory Singapore occupies, as the country's area is constantly increasing, thanks to artificially created islands. Incidentally, today there are 63 islands that make up the territory of Singapore </ strong>. One of the largest islands is the capital - Singapore.

Unlike many countries in Southeast Asia, almost everyone in Singapore is fluent in English, because it is official here, however, like Chinese and Malay. Therefore, tourists here are relatively comfortable. I remember when I came to Korea, there were problems with communication, because at that time in Korea very few spoke English, and even more so, very few people understood it. Although the reserve of English words among Koreans is still quite good. Simply, the whole problem is in practice.

I visited 2 islands of Singapore: in the capital and on the island of Sentosa.

First, I'll say a few words about Sentosa Island. The island is magic. Ideal for a beach rest. Clean beach and warm Indian Ocean. Along the beach there are bar counters with good music. Well, the warm sun warms its rays 12 months of the year. What could be better ?! In addition, the island has its own resort and a small shopping mall. But the main attraction of the island is the world-famous Universal Amusement Park . So that the children here will not be bored. Although, in truth, the park does not yawn and adults.

Well, now back to the capital. From the island of Sentosa to the capital for 5 minutes, the funicular drives. Everything is very simple and easy.

It is hard to say that I liked and remembered most of all. So I'll start in order. I've heard a lot about Singapore Zoo, so it was in my top list of places I wanted to visit. And not in vain. Despite the fact that I do not support the imprisonment of the poor animals in enclosures, from the Singapore Zoo, I was thrilled. Here enclosures are so big that they are practically invisible, and it seems that you walk through the park along with the animals. The very same zoo is huge. We spent almost the whole day there. We watched the night show and went home. Yes, according to the zoo at night are different shows and performances.

Singapore surprises with its architecture. For example, the building of a scientific museum. From the outside, I would never have thought that it was a scientific museum. Rather a theater or a cultural center, or just a monument. And it turned out that the scientific museum. Or let's recall the world famous Marina Bay Sands hotel with a ship on the roof . The hotel is especially attractive when you are in a swimsuit with a cocktail in your hand enjoying a cool water in the pool on the roof of the hotel and you look at the city stretching before the eyes!

A peculiar design stands out and a fountain of wealth . In the daytime the fountain is not particularly attractive. A huge metal ring on a couple of columns. But then, at night, when light music starts and the fountain splashes into the beat of the melody, it's a fascinating sight.

At night, I strongly advise you to visit the Grove of the super trees in the Garden of the Bay Magic Garden , which occupies 100 hectares of Singapore and consists of 3 parks. So, in principle, if you like nature and botanical gardens, then Garden by the Bay can be the place where you will spend another 1 day of your trip. Alas, we did not have much time, so we managed to walk only among the huge trees, feeling like the Lilliputians in the country of giants.

In Singapore, the world's tallest Ferris wheel was built, its height reaches 165 meters! To visit Singapore and not to sit in a capsule to climb and see the whole city as in the palm of your hand is simply impossible.

And finally, I will share with you a legend about a mystical animal with the head of a lion and the trunk of a fish - about Merlion . Legend has it that this mystic beast, with his gaze, wiped out all enemies and enemies of Singapore. And with bad weather in the ocean, he came out of the water to again help the local people. Therefore, across Singapore there are statues of this wonder beast.

In Singapore, it is best to travel in winter. Not hot, not stuffy, but just perfect - perfect sunbathing and enjoy walking around the city.
