Travel to Sabang Daguitan in Dulag Leyte to Surf

February 2018 · 3 min read

I’ve been traveling for 8 hours more or less today. From my place, I took an “Angkas” like a Grab Bike to go to Pier 1. Then a boat going to Ormoc. It’s three hours sailing from Cebu. I got invited by my friend Alieth to join a surf camp. It will be my first time going there even if its just near my hometown. I’ve surfed in Siargao “the surfing capital of the Philippines” but it’s always good to try out a new place.

Ormoc City Port

Supercat was on time, we left Cebu city port at exactly 12 noon just as scheduled. We arrived at Ormoc port around 3 pm. It wasn’t a smooth sail though. We experienced big waves near Camotes island. Some locals on board were shouting and panicking about what’s happening. One even put a life jacket on. Good thing, the crew made sure that everything’s fine and instructed us to remain calm.

My friend Alieth posed with the “Inasal” roasted pork vendor 😊

Me and Alieth

We paid 150 pesos or less than $3 in total for 1/4 kilo inasal, 4 “puso” hanging rice and 2 mountain dews. It was good enough for a late lunch. After eating, we then crossed to the terminal to go to Palo Leyte. We took a van and paid 120 pesos each for two hours travel. It was half pass 6 when we arrived. We then bought a whole piece of roasted chicken for dinner. We waited almost 20 minutes for a jeepney to take us to Dulag for 20 pesos each. The travel was around 30 minutes, it was packed with locals going home from work or school. We sat in the middle end of the jeepney on an extra chair. I think it was 30 people more or less on the jeepney. You know you’re in the province when you see this.

When we arrived in Dulag market, we took a tricycle going to the surf camp. We paid 20 pesos. The local surfers were drinking “tuba” coconut wine with Pepsi 😊 when we arrived in the camp house. We were welcomed with a shot of course and reggae music jams. It’s a very laid back island life they have here. Almost everyone will be sleeping on a hammock others are camping outside.

Tagay! Using one glass for everyone, one must wait for your turn to drink...

That’s all traveling for the day. We made it! The surfing competition will be tomorrow. I’m looking forward to watch the masters.
