Cafe XIU Café : Danang, Vietnam
Whats going on Dear Blog readers?
Greenery. Blessed silence. What could be more exciting than the discovery of a hidden coffee shop? Unlike public places, these are spaces where nobody really knows you, nobody expects anything from you, and for one precious hour you are able to be alone with your thoughts. Discovering a hidden coffee shop feels like discovering a secret treasure. One may think that the most exciting part of the coffee shop discovery is the discovery itself, and certainly there is nothing wrong with idle curiosity. But rather than this purely physical experience, the most exciting part of the coffee shop discovery is the opportunity it provides.
Hidden coffee shops are fun because they are secluded and you feel like you discovered something that no one else knows about. They are like little fairytale hideaways. There are no big chains to deal with and the service is usually one on one. The shops are usually small and quaint with friendly atmospheres.
The other day I had a meeting with some friends of a unique coffee shop. When they sent me the map location I assumed it was going to be a franchise location, as it was located in the main city district, however when I arrive it was like stepping into a micro. When inside you forgot all about the outside world, and sit in a bit of old Vietnam charm in the middle of the modern city.
Below you'll find some photos of this unique coffee location, if you find yourself in Danang, Vietnam I recommend you check it out!

When you arrive XIU Café, it looks as though it is another street in the city, something you might see in Hoi An ( a historic city about 30 minutes away to the south), however this is a coffee shop. There is a rolling rain roof above the whole facility keeping it dry as well. I imagine in summer or the nice days, they open that up and let the sun in!
Through the archway there were children playing, much like a city street would have, I don't think they were employees, but they did add that atmosphere along with the lanterns dotted back-and-forth... Not like any type of coffee shop I went to before.
Each of the different rooms decorated differently and uniquely, income each day to experience a different setting, a different room to be in, to have a different feeling and mood.
Through this open window we see the coffee bar, it was very much classic Vietnamese coffee. I got a Saigon style coffee, then sat and enjoyed for a while.
Sitting at my table I could look down to the other Windows open doors, all the multiple rooms of colorful uniquely decorated location, tantalized the imagination.
Hanging in front of me, sort of like your UFO's landing, beautiful orange lanterns.
Here is looking into another one of the rooms, this one had an open ceiling. I can imagine on a sunny day when the pull back the roof, the tree along the light coming in must be viewed with a coffee and a scone to fully appreciate the architect vision.
Here's another uniquely designed space to sit in. I see a lot of Vietnamese style shops do the decoration with sewing machines and thread, speaking of the industrialized nation it is becoming.
There are also numerous decorations, that in some way reminded me of my grandma's house... such as these two chickens just kind of hanging out being glass chickens. I wonder if they were real chickens but then saw a Medusa, but instead of stone Medusa a glass Medusa, and now there forever frozen in their quackery.
Walking through different rooms, stepping back out onto the street to hear kids playing, people doing people things... It was a nice relaxing experience.
I want to share one photo with you of that rollback roof, is one of the largest of these rolling groups I have seen, it is like a transformer building, Monday its a building, Tuesday its outside.
So it has come time for me to bid farewell to XIU Café for now. I think I'll be back and perhaps bring a friend to enjoy morning coffee in the future. Perhaps that person is you?
Maybe looking for an escape for a moment the city streets, maybe looking for a place to pop open your laptop and type out that next work of manuscript, maybe just a place to sit and relax for a moment. Hidden coffee shops provide that unique atmosphere to spur on the imagination, generate intrigue, and enjoy the day.
Thanks for joining me today on this photo journey, I hope to see you back here again soon more exciting updates.
Be well and be awesome!
