Dragon City Ink, Danang Vietnam (Tattoo Studio)

Dear blog readers

I have to say, tattoos are quite fashionable these days. They come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes, and colors. While I personally don't have any, except a dot on my hand from high school art class, when a kid try to stab me with an Indian ink pen, I blocked it with my hand, forever tattooing my palm with a dot from that moment... I do think that tattoos are interesting.

Tattoos have been worn as a way of showing one's personality for centuries. Evidence of tattoos dates back as far as 24,000 BCE. In Japan, they were an integral part of the Samurai ritual. Soldiers in the US Army during World War II had tattoos to help with unit cohesion. They were also used in fraternity rituals. The girls in the mob would often get tattoos for each other, similar to the way the boys might have done in fraternities. Tattoos are about giving someone an eternal gift. They are also a symbol of the individual's willingness to take a chance, to be different, to experience life, and to walk on The Edge.

Recently, just around the block from where I call home, a new tattoo studio opened up. Well they opened up about six months ago, however with lockdowns and global pandemics, they have not officially had the chance to "open", until recently.

This studio is known as Dragon City Ink. The founders of this are Alex and Frank. Alex, sets up and runs international tattoo festivals around the world! And that is pretty darn awesome. Again due to global pandemics, they had to cancel their festival for this year but they are planning to do a big one next year!

Today I'll show you some photos from Dragon city Ink.

There are many pieces of exotic decorations that adorn the walls and corners. Such as these peacock feathers.

As it is a tattoo studio, there are many pieces of artwork that feature classic tattoos, displayed in almost a religious fashion.

At the back of the studio in a glass case, organized in color and size order, you find the tattoo inks. These are all high quality inks that have been imported from Western cultures. Alex told the story of how they had to get them through customs, and how they were almost impounded as it was considered medical equipment. That's the high-grade standard they put on their inks.

So many different colors and shades, it's kind of fascinating to think aboutthe many different types of tattoos these will make, and who will eventually have it on them.

As they live close by, I do walk by the shop often, and have had the pleasure to see them building it up over time. Watching them bring in different pieces of equipment, change things, add things... It's nice to see the business come together and friends succeed.

Also just look at all the artwork they don't have up yet. These are people, these are professionals, who are serious and dedicated about the art and craft of tattoos.

Tattoos... It’s not just a bunch of pictures that once upon a time you woke up and decided you liked, it's way more than that. A tattoo is a deep personal decision, like the decision to get married or to get a pet. It’s relying on someone else to make you happy for the rest of your life. It’s accepting the possibility of disappointment or sadness, but also the possibility of pure happiness. That's way more serious than the decision to order the bacon cheeseburger or the grilled chicken sandwich. A tattoo is an important decision.

I would trust this tattoo parlor put a work of art on my body and I may do that in the near future.

If you find yourself in Danang Vietnam, consider stopping by this great shop. Tell them thy guy with a mustache told you to come on by and see what they say. Hahaha.

Cheers my friends and see you all soon!
