Hello Travel Friends.

If you’re looking for a typical Indian experience, you’ll be sorely disappointed. The Gateway of India is not the place for that. Instead, it’s the ideal starting point for any trip to India. The city of Mumbai, which is India’s most populous metropolis, is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. In this city you will find a fascinating fusion of ancient and modern, of wealth and poverty, of chaos and order. It’s one of the few places where you can discover the genuine India. Here, time seems to have stood still and the influences of the past and the future seem to have collided head-on.

All the photos in this post, I have taken while in Mumbai at the Gateway. :)

What is the Gateway of India?

The Gateway of India is a monument and archway located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The archway is located in the island city of Mahim and is a part of the Marine Drive, which hugs the coast of Mumbai. Declared a National Monument in 1980, the Gateway of India is widely considered to be one of the most iconic structures in India, and the second-most photographed tourist location in the country.

What to see at the Gateway of India?

The sea, the sun, and the beautiful skyline of Mumbai can be viewed from the Gateway of India. Visiting the Gateway of India is a must when in Mumbai. It is not only a symbol of the city but also a great place for photographs. A walk along the promenade adjoining the sea and the skyline will give a feel of the bustling metropolis, which is always teeming with activity.

Just be sure to where a mask. I was stopped by a security guard and almost fined 200 rupees for not having one on. I did not know that was a rule here, but it turns out it was. So, be safe, wear a mask when walking around

What to avoid at the Gateway of India?

Unlike other Indian cities, tourists are not immediately assaulted by the bustling crowd at the Gateway of India. However, this doesn’t mean that you should engage in activity that could be risky. While photographers love to capture the majestic Gateway of India, visitors should be careful when walking on the sea-facing side of the structure as it is quite a high fall if you go over the edge.

Also, you will have a lot of tourist photo takers offering you their services. If you like to have your picture taken and printed out on the spot, this can happen here as well.

Note, that due to the various terror attacks that have happened at this site, there is a check point you have to go through, your bag will be sent through a x-ray, and you will have to walk through a mettle dictator.

Conclusion

The Gateway of India is an architectural marvel and a must-visit tourist site in Mumbai. Located at the end of Mahatma Gandhi Road, the structure is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. The sea breeze and the beautiful Marine Drive add to the scenic beauty of the Gateway of India. If you are visiting Mumbai, be sure to add this to your travel itinerary.
