Mijdrecht is the largest town and the capital of the municipality of De Ronde Venen in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The village is slightly south of the provincial road 201, about halfway between Uithoorn and Vinkeveen. Mijdrecht lies against the village of Wilnis and has 16,466 inhabitants (2012).
Until 1989, Mijdrecht was an independent municipality. In that year the new municipality De Ronde Venen was formed together with Vinkeveen and Waverveen and Wilnis. On January 1, 2011 was merged with Abcoude. The town hall is located in Mijdrecht.
Mijdrecht belonged to the countries of the Proosdij of Sint Jan in Utrecht until 1795. Around 1090 a number of farmers settled on a dike, surrounded by water, channels and ponds. It was the dyke that is now known as Bozenhoven and lies just before the center of Mijdrecht. As more areas were drained, more people could settle, and soon Mijdrecht grew into a hamlet. Mijdrecht was a real village around the high middle ages. There was even a small castle, the House in Mijdrecht. This image has remained unchanged for many years. In the meantime, Mijdrecht grew slowly. Eventually the lock disappeared again. Around 1800 Mijdrecht was a village with two churches, a mill and a shipyard. Mijdrecht was surrounded by canals, and as a result became more well known in inland navigation.
Around 1950 the first residential area in Mijdrecht appeared. That was the beginning of the renewal that made Mijdrecht what it is now. Over the years, Mijdrecht grew bigger, more residential areas were added and changes took place. In 2005 a new district was added: Wickelhof II. In 2006 Wickelhof III was completed, which is in line with Wickelhof I and II

Mijdrecht to największe miasto i stolica gminy De Venen w holenderskiej prowincji Utrecht. Miejscowość leży nieco na południe od drogi wojewódzkiej 201, mniej więcej w połowie drogi między Uithoorn i Vinkeveen. Mijdrecht leży na wsi Wilnis i ma 16 466 mieszkańców (2012).
Do 1989 r. Mijdrecht był niezależną gminą. W tym roku utworzono nową gminę De Ronde Venen wraz z Vinkeveen i Waverveen i Wilnis. W dniu 1 stycznia 2011 r. Został połączony z Abcoude. Ratusz znajduje się w Mijdrecht.
