Eating Freshly Caught Fish in Koh Chang, Thailand

A Special thanks to @starkerz and @theycallmedan

This year's @Steemfest took place in Bangkok, Thailand. After the week of conferences in the city, a large group of Steemians decided to keep the festivities going by heading to Koh Chang for some island-style fun. On Wednesday, November 13, 2019, the @threespeak team (@starkerz and @theycallmedan) decided to take a bunch of us on a boat trip for a day of fishing and snorkeling in the beautiful waters of Thailand.

We dropped an anchor and fished for a couple of hours. I managed to bring in four small fish and a eel. @mynewlife and @martibis were also successful in catching some fish. The guide and the captain caught a bunch too. @lizanomadsoul was reeling in a big one, but it managed to get away right as it was reaching the surface.

Below is a photo of me with a small catch as @mynewlife looks on

The Catch

I was not familiar with the species of fish that we were catching, but they were gorgeous. Below is a look at the two main catches of the day. One was dark with blue stripes and the other was speckled like a leopard. They weren't very big, but by the end of the day we had a bucket loaded with them.

Sushi Time

While I was fishing off the back of the boat, the guide approached me and asked "Do you like sushi?"... I said yes of course. The next thing I know, the guide asked me to fill him a plate full of ice. He began filleting the freshly caught fish on the back of the boat and putting the chunks of meat on the ice. This sushi was as fresh as it can get.

He served it up with a dish of soy sauce and wasabi for dipping. At first I was a little hesitant, because I never had raw fish so fresh before. It reminded me of the Gollum eating fish scene in the Lord of the Rings. I dipped it in the soy sauce and wasabi and gave it a try. I was very surprised by how good it was.

After we had sushi, the captain pan-fried the remaining fish that were caught and we ate it alongside some rice, chicken curry and quiche. Although it may be common in many parts of the world, I have never eaten a fish that was served whole before. Most of the fish I eat is de-scaled, skinned and filleted. This was actually delicious. The fish itself wasn't very meaty, but the meat that I got was fresh and flavorful.

As you can see below, I really enjoyed eating (and playing with) my fish. After lunch we jumped into the water with the fish bones and watched as schools of fish came and quickly devoured the leftovers.

The @threespeak boat trip was one of the greatest parts of @steemfest 4. I had a lot of fun fishing and eating the catch with @starkerz, @theycallmedan, @gabbygolden, @martibis, @lizanomadsoul, @anomadsoul, @zlatan-spielberg, @celestal, @dylanhobalart, @mynewlife and @louis88.

A special thanks to @starkerz and @theycallmedan for putting this together and making it all happen! I look forward to seeing the @threespeak platform grow and prosper! Check it out at https://3speak.online/
