Monks wore orange robes and prayed in the sacred Pāli language here before Columbus sailed the ocean blue over five centuries ago. Minus the young monks on smartphones and the power lines, it is the same today.
This is the best shot I could get of the entrance to the ancient temple and sign without including ugly power lines hence the angle. If you stand in the center of the entrance it will make for a great echo if you hum deeply.
I started my journey at about 3pm. The sun was scorching hot and so bright I couldn't see my screen, so I used this tree's shade to adust brightness, turn on airplane mode, power save mode, and played some downloaded podcasts for entertainment.
I wanted to get lost and explore a bit, but I mostly let the shade determine my path.
I snapped a few pictures of cool houses, but I liked this one the most.
I heard a local woman ask her friend as they walked by me why I was taking pictures of trees. They may be boring to her because she's seen coconut trees her whole life, but they look exotic to me. I remember feeling very disappointed when I moved to Northern California and saw very few palm trees. I always associate them with a tropical paradise.
It's nice to see handmade local accessories. Shops like this have been around for hundreds of years here.

The hospitality business has accounted for only 3% of the Corona virus transmissions. It is a shame they all had to shut down and many of them will not survive this global overreaction.
This looks very ancient, but it was renovated in 1992. I imagine that they took better care of the places of worship back in they day, but it may have looked just like this since the air here destroys everything fast.
I've been here over two years and have not yet visited the tourist information office.

The locals have nicknamed this watermelon. It got a fresh coat of paint just a year ago, but it is already looking old. Actually it is old, very old. There is supposed to be ancient monks' bones and gold inside.
