A walk through the Petrovka and Kamenný rybník nature reserves / Procházka přírodními rezervacemi

A five-kilometer walk through the forest terrain around Pilsen-Bolevec awaits us.
We'll have a small snack, a little drink, ant-resistant shoes, and we can go. Nowadays, we must not forget the protective veil if we meet more people along the way.
Our trip starts on the final trams No. 4 - in Košutka by the pond of volunteer firefighters.

Čeká nás zhruba pětikilometrová procházka lesním terénem po okolí Plzně-Bolevce.
Vezmeme si malou svačinu, trochu pití, boty odolné vůči mravencům a můžeme vyrazit. V dnešní době nesmíme zapomenout ani na ochrannou roušku, kdybychom cestou potkali více lidí.
Náš výlet začíná na konečné tramvaje č. 4 - na Košutce u rybníčku dobrovolných hasičů.

Behind the pond, a pine forest awaits us. If we don't go into the grass, we don't even have to worry too much about ticks. A comfortable path will take us to the board of the nature trail.

Za rybníčkem nás už čeká borový les. Pokud nezajdeme do trávy, nemusíme se zde příliš obávat ani klíšťat. Pohodlná cesta nás zavede až k tabuli naučné stezky.

Sigmond's nature trail was named after the deserving forester J. Sigmond, the manager of the Pilsen forests. He found out that pine trees thrive best on the local soil and tried to sow their various species.

Sigmondova naučná stezka byla pojmenována podle zasloužilého lesníka J. Sigmonda, hospodáře plzeňských lesů. Ten přišel na to, že na zdejší půdě se nejlépe daří borovici a zkoušel vysévat jejich různé druhy.

We are located in the Petrovka nature reserve. It is formed by the valley of the Bolevecký stream. Here we can see a small wetland, where thousands of buttercups bloom in the spring. Under normal water conditions, the Bolevecký stream flows here and briskly. Today, however, it is partially dry.

Nacházíme se v přírodní rezervaci Petrovka. Ta je tvořená údolím Boleveckého potoka. Můžeme si zde prohlédnou malý mokřad, kde na jaře rozkvétají tisíce blatouchů. Za normálního stavu vody tu i čile proudí Bolevecký potok. Dnes je však částečně vyschlý.

We continue along the nature trail a few hundred meters in the direction of Křížový kámen.
We must not miss a small turn to the left along the way. It is indicated by a small signpost.

Dále pokračujeme po naučné stezce několik stovek metrů směr Křížový kámen.
Cestou nesmíme minout malou odbočku vlevo. Označuje jí malá směrovka.

At the end of a short, about a hundred-meter turn, we will be greeted by ON. Spruce Trojan. King of the local woods, about 150 years old. At a low height above the ground, the tree splits into three straight trunks.

Na konci krátké, asi stometrové odbočky nás přivítá ON. Smrk Troják. Král zdejšího polesí, stáří kolem 150 let. V malé výšce nad zemí se strom rozděluje na tři přímé kmeny.

The tree is protected by the state. Memorable tree. You can hug him and feel his power.

Strom je státem chráněný. Památný strom. Můžete ho obejmout a vnímat jeho sílu.

Watch out, snake! It's not a snake. This is a blind man, a harmless creature. Lizard without legs. We will carefully put him out of the way so that the cyclist does not cross him or step on the tourist. It would be a shame.

Pozor, had! To přece není had. To je slepýš, neškodný tvor. Ještěrka bez nohou. Dáme ho opatrně z cesty pryč, aby ho nepřejel cyklista či nezašlápl turista. Byla by ho škoda.

From the Troják spruce we go to the Cross Stone. There is also a recently renewed divine torment, called U Řezníka. The stones are reminiscent of a medieval event, the murder of a butcher returning from the market. The perpetrator of such an act then erected such a stone as an expression of repentance.

Od smrku Trojáku přejdeme ke Křížovému kameni. Stojí u něho i v nedávné době obnovená boží muka, zvaná U Řezníka. Kameny připomínají dávno událost ve středověku, vraždu řezníka, který se tudy vracel z trhu. Pachatel takového činu pak jako výraz pokání vztyčil takový kámen.

From the cross stone we go to the next stop of the nature trail.
But this is a strange structure, is it a furnace?
Yes, it is a round furnace from the times when wooden wagons were still driving around our country. Their axes were lubricated with product from such furnaces.
Our furnace is the best preserved in the whole of Central Europe, it is a unique technical monument from the middle of the 18th century.

Od křížového kamene přejdeme na další zastávku naučné stezky.
To je ale zvláštní stavba, to je nějaká pec?
Ano, je to kolomazná pec z dob, kdy ještě po naší zemi jezdily dřevěné povozy. Jejich osy se mazaly produktem z takových pecí.
Naše pec je nejzachovalejší v celé střední Evropě, je to unikátní technická památka z poloviny 18. století.

Let's look at her from the front. Axle grease and tar were discharged through the largest opening.
The furnace was originally double-skinned, the wood inside being heated by fire between the two jackets. Due to its dry distillation, products such as pitch, rosin, tar, wood alcohol and axle grease were obtained.

Prohlédneme si jí zepředu. Největším otvorem se vypouštěla kolomaz a dehet.
Pec byla původně dvouplášťová, dřevo uvnitř se zahřívalo ohněm mezi oběma plášti. Vlivem jeho suché destilace se získávaly pak produkty jako smola, kalafuna, dehet, dřevný líh a kolomaz.

The furnace is situated on a steep slope.

Pec je situována v prudkém svahu.

We will also see the upper filling hole and brick lining from the time of reconstruction.

Prohlédneme si i horní plnící otvor a cihelnou vyzdívku z doby rekonstrukce.

We will leave the interesting furnace and visit the Kamenný rybník nature reserve.
This reserve protects peat bogs on the tributaries of Kamenný rybník and its wetlands.

Zajímavou pec opustíme a navštívíme přírodní rezervaci Kamenný rybník.
Tato rezervace chrání rašeliniště na přítocích Kamenného rybníka a jeho mokřady.

Tohle je král smrků, či spíše jeho torzo. Bývalý nejmohutnější smrk zdejšího lesa už dožil a teď jeho hnijící dřevo poskytuje potravu hmyzu a houbám...
Pamatoval časy, kdy ještě kolomazná pec fungovala...

A non-intervention policy is applied in the nature reserve. The fallen trees are left to their fate and create interesting scenery here.

V přírodní rezervaci se uplatňuje bezzásahová politika. Padlé stromy jsou ponechány svému osudu a tvoří zde zajímavé scenérie.

From the King of Spruces we get to the surface of Kamenný rybník.
Its water is usually colored brown by leachate from peat bogs. In summer we can use its small sandy beaches for recreation.

Od krále smrků se dostaneme až k hladině Kamenného rybníka.
Jeho voda bývá zbarvena do hněda výluhy z rašelinišť. V létě můžeme využít i jeho malé písčité pláže k rekreaci.

Our walk ends. We can go, for example, to the final tram No. 1 to Bolevec and go home.
