A Kind of Food from Childhood Memories.
The Chap Teo Seng (Ngoh Heong) has been selling Ngoh Heong for over 30 years, they are quite famous around this area, even been interviewed by local magazines as well. Something not to be missed by the food lover.
This store has been operating for 2 generations, the previous location was burned down in May 2018, luckily they managed to find a shop nearby and open for business again after 2 months of absent.
What is so special about this place and it's food? Well, they served Ngoh Heong (五香) or Lobak (五香滷肉) aka Chinese Meat Rolls. It's a deep fried pork meat roll marinated with five-spice wrapped in beancurd sheet, it has a crunchiness outside and soft and tasty spices meat inside. A very popular homemade dish by the Hokkien and Teochew dialect during the festive season.
Well, this shop's Signature Ngoh Heong has its own special ingredients that no one can guess what they mixed with. Besides the Ngoh Heong, they also served all kinds of hawker style fried snacks, like fried Yam Cake, fried Popiah (Spring Roll), Fish Balls, Century Egg, Tau Kwa (firm beancurd), Pink Sausages, Marinated Pig Ears... Now they even sell five-spice chicken wings!
It is a must to have your food with this sauce, the bucket on the left is sweet and sour but with its own unique spices, the bucket on the right is their chilli sauce, and again, not just plain chillies. Mixed this two together you had yourself a mouth-watering sauce!
There is another lady selling Fried Kueh Teow just beside them. They might be related I'm not sure because she only started around 8 years ago, her Char Kueh Teow was tasty as she added pork lard into the Kueh Teow, which brings out the drooling aroma that I missed so much!!
Let's See What I have Packed for Myself!
I usually pick only a few that I really like and most of it is their signature, there's the ngoh heong (the one that's a bit dark coloured), fried yam cake, fried spring roll, fish balls. I like the sausage too but I notice I can't finish them all nowadays, sausage needed to be sacrificed!
Because I packed the Fried Kueh Teow too!!! I cannot help myself!!
Thank you for reading my review until the end, I hope you enjoy them and see you in the next post!
