My day started at 5:30 am and at about 7:00 am I arrived in Gozd Martuljek at my starting point. The small parking lot was still completely empty, which meant I had the path and the waterfalls for myself.

Mein Tag begann um etwa 5:30 Uhr und um etwa 07:00 Uhr traf ich in Gozd Martuljek an meinem Ausgangspunkt ein. Der kleine Parkplatz war noch komplett leer, was bedeutete, ich hatte den Weg und die Wasserfälle für mich alleine.

From this parking lot, I first went to the bike path and then on a gravel road to the west, until I came to a turnoff, where there is a nicely landscaped place with information about the forest, which you can walk around and wander through. Incidentally, "Gozd" means "forest" in Slovenian.

Von diesem Parkplatz ging ich zuerst am Fahrradweg und dann über eine Schotterstraße in Richtung Westen, bis ich zu einer Abzweigung kam. Hier gibt es einen schön angelegten Platz mit Informationen zu dem Wald, den man umrunden und durchwandern kann. "Gozd" heißt übrigens "Wald" auf Slowenisch.

In that forest there are information boards beside the different trees and shrubs with the name of the plant.
The trail around the forest meets after a while the path to the waterfalls. I turned immediately right on this path, which led me through the forest to a bridge over the Martuljek river.

In dem Wald gibt es bei den verschiedenen Bäumen und Sträuchern Informationstafeln mit dem Namen der Pflanze.
Der Rundweg um den Wald trifft nach einer Weile auf den Wanderweg zu den Wasserfällen. Ich bog also gleich nach rechts auf diesen Weg ab, welcher mich durch den Wald bis zu einer Brücke über den Martuljek Fluss führte.

After this bridge, the actual trail began.

Nach dieser Brücke begann der eigentliche Wanderweg.

For a while I walked on a narrow trail along the river, which unfortunately had little water.

Eine Weile ging ich auf einem schmalen Wanderweg entlang des Flusses, welcher leider nur wenig Wasser führte.

After about 45 minutes after I started at the parking spot I reached another bridge and a few height meters later I was at the lookout point, where you can see the lower waterfall Spodnji Martuljški slap (a total of about 50 meters high) for the first time.

Ungefähr 45 Minuten nach meinem Start am Parkplatz erreichte ich eine weitere Brücke und einige Höhenmeter später war ich am Aussichtspunkt, an welchem man den unteren Wasserfall Spodnji Martuljški slap (insgesamt etwa 50 Meter hoch) zum ersten Mal sehen kann.

A few meters further, the path then passed relatively close to the waterfall.

Einige Meter weiter führte der Weg dann auch noch relativ nahe am Wasserfall vorbei.

From then on the path went uphill through the forest and then on through a beautiful, partly moss-overgrown forest area, in which you cross a small stream, which meanders through the flat forest there..

Von nun an ging es bergauf durch den Wald und dann weiter durch ein schönes, zum Teil moosüberwachsenes Waldgebiet, in welchem man auch einen kleinen Bach überquert, der sich durch den dort flachen Wald schlängelt.

Shortly before the last section of the route, the path continued for a few hundred meters relatively steep up through the forest and over rocky terrain, until the path again led across a wooded slope to a short descent down to the Martuljek river.
My arrival time was about 9:30 am.

Kurz vor dem letzten Streckenabschnitt ging es dann noch einige hundert Meter relativ steil bergauf durch den Wald und über felsiges Gebiet, bis der Weg wieder etwas flacher quer über einen bewaldeten Abhang zu einem kurzen mit Stahlseil gesicherten Abstieg zum Martuljek Fluss hinunter führte.
Meine Ankunftszeit war etwa 09:30 Uhr.

Once there, the river squeezes in small waterfalls between the rocks and above you can see the big waterfall Zgornji Martuljški slap (altogether about 110 meters high).

Dort angekommen zwängt sich der Fluss in kleinen Wasserfällen zwischen den Felsen durch und oberhalb sieht man den großen Wasserfall Zgornji Martuljški slap (insgesamt etwa 110 Meter hoch).

Of course you can get to this waterfall, but the path leads steeply upwards between the sometimes very slippery rocks and is secured with steel cables to hold on to. It's kind of a short via ferrata.

Zu diesem Wasserfall kann man natürlich auch gelangen, aber der Weg führt zwischen den zum teil sehr rutschigen Felsen steil nach oben und ist mit Stahlseilen gesichert, an denen man sich festhalten kann. Es ist irgendwie ein kurzer Klettersteig.

On the way back you can partly go another way, where you can eat something in the log cabin Brunarica Pri Ingotu lying on the way, and you pass a small wooden chapel (Finžgar Chapel / Finžgarjeva kapela).

However, I went back the same way I came because I wanted to take some pictures in this mossy forest.

Auf dem Weg zurück kann man zum Teil einen anderen Weg gehen, wobei man in der am Weg liegenden Blockhütte Brunarica Pri Ingotu etwas essen kann, und man kommt vorher an einer kleinen Holzkapelle (Finžgar-Kapelle / Finžgarjeva kapela) vorbei.

Ich bin jedoch den selben Weg zurück gegangen, den ich gekommen war, weil ich noch ein paar Fotos in diesem moosigen Wald machen wollte.

My conclusion:

The hike runs through a beautiful forest area and you can admire two fascinating waterfalls.
Except for the last few meters, which go over a via ferrata, secured by steel ropes, and lead directly to the large waterfall, the route is in my opinion also suitable for family hikes with children. To me, the rocks in the area of the via ferrata were sometimes very slippery, but this may also have been due to the previous rainy days and the early morning time when I was there.

Mein Fazit:

Die Wanderung verläuft durch ein wunderschönes Waldgebiet und man kann zwei faszinierende Wasserfälle bewundern.
Bis auf die letzten Meter, welche über einen mit Stahlseilen gesicherten Klettersteig direkt an den großen Wasserfall führt, ist die Strecke meiner Ansicht nach auch für Familienwanderungen mit Kindern geeignet. Mir sind die Felsen im Bereich des Klettersteiges zum Teil sehr rutschig vorgekommen, was aber auch an den vorangegangenen Regentagen und der frühmorgendlichen Zeit gelegen haben kann.
