Continuing from our trip in Dresden Old Town, we explored the magnificent Swinger Garden and the Dresden Royal Palace next. All of these attractions are within walking distance from each other and makes visiting them easy and convenient.
Swinger Garden
Built in the early 1700s, the Swinger Garden was originally an open area surrounded by wooded buildings with the purpose of hosting different types of tournaments for the Saxony royalties. Later, stone and concrete buildings were erected, forming the vast garden that we see today.
The preservation work done on buildings and grounds in and around Swinger are impressive, giving a royalty feel when walking through the garden area.
The open space within the palace were mostly empty when we were there. Supposedly, there will be different activities and festivals during different seasons. This is a great place for families and friends to just chill out under the cooling weather.
In the main building, there are art galleries and a porcelain museum that housed one of the largest ceramic collections in the world. An entrance fee is required and we didn't enter. There is also a small cafe within if you need a coffee or a break.
Dresden Royal Palace
The Royal Palace of Dresden was home to Saxony Royalties and was constructed in the 14 century. The palace underwent several destructions during the 1700s and World War 2, with many areas completely destroyed. Renovation works were done to restore the Palace to its originals, but most of the interiors and furnishings were beyond repair. A good amount of history were lost due to the calamities.

A museum for the states arts collection of Dresden was build in the castle during the 80s and countless treasures were finally opened to the public in 2010. Today, the Dresden Royal palace is home to several world class historic museums, including the Green Vault, a museum that contains the largest collection of treasures in Europe.
We only spent half a day exploring Dresden Old Town as all the attractions are nearby one another. It is a doable day trip, unless you are a museum lover, you may need more than a day or two. There are just so many museums to explore here.
