'The Templar church of Astureses, dependent on the encomienda of Amoeiro, has on its main tympanum an enigmatic tau-anksada cross, inside whose "handle" a Greek cross is inscribed expressing the exoteric-esoteric duality of the Order. Less enigmatic, but more suggestive, it is a tombstone that can be seen on the north wall in the name of the Templar knight Frey Juan Pérez de Outeiro, who died on August 3, 1286. In it, the romances have materialized the Celtic tradition of the "pilgrim soul" ", very common in Galicia ...".
[Rafael Alarcón Herrera (1)]
When I open this book and observe the dedication that the author himself dedicated to me on the back cover, I can not help feeling a certain irrepressible feeling of nostalgia.
It was in Ejea de los Caballeros - for more inri- on March 26, 2010, when this friend and Teacher, wrote the following epitaph, with neat handwriting and in capital letters, imitating, perhaps, the marks of recognition of other ancestral Masters, as were the medieval stonemasons: 'To Juancar, "the Hidalgo of the Esoteric Figure" ..., with my appreciation and friendship, so that he never loses his excited enthusiasm for the mysteries of the Middle Ages”.
I remember that on that occasion, my feet were safe, because there was the figure of the Master to watch because my enthusiasm did not make me fall into the abyss of error, which so often await the researcher who dares to walk behind the traces of these enigmatic, and at the same time elusive medieval knights, who were the Templars.
From then until now, we have shared a trip on some occasions and we have flown, also alone, in many others.
It is the law of life that the chick abandons the security of the nest and embarks on its own adventures. Life, together with the infinitude of situations it presents, is the best school.
Nobody is oblivious to their tricks, but surely we have all learned from mistakes and failures. Recognizing and accepting them is the best way to learn. Because doing so, not only does the conspicuous and negative twin who accompanies us all, to a lesser or greater degree, and whose name, Ego, makes us forget the basics of an investigation: honesty.
It is also true that I honestly recognized my mistake, just when the Master told me, punishing me to go back several boxes in the Game of the Goose, which is somehow not unrelated to what is said here, and stay several shifts without pulling.
It hurts to say it, but since we are, or pretend to be honest, I will argue, in my defense, that my fall in error was motivated, mainly, by following the recommendations of another great Master of Magical Spain, as was Juan García Atienza, who, in several of his books - above all, in his famous Guides of Magical Spain, precisely - fell into the error of confusing the nearby church of Santa María de Xuvencos, with this one of San Xulián de Astureses.
Why did not he repair his mistake in time, knowing, as I know, that he knew it, is a mystery that I fear we will never know.
But in spite of everything, and taking into account his extraordinary divulging work, I believe that it is a peccadillo that can be forgiven with all my heart, without obscuring, at all, the great work done, and above all, the respect earned and deserved.
That does not mean, of course, that I, personally, had a pending debt, not only with this place in Astureses, but also with myself and, above all, with those friends who, with greater or lesser frequency, stroll through the pages of this blog.
Recently, I had the opportunity to return to Galicia, and I could not miss the opportunity to approach Astureses and verify, as Master Alarcón says, that the tomb with the inscription of the condemned soul of Frey Juan Pérez de Outeiro continues there, in its place of the north wall.
That the strange cross with "asa", similar to the ank or Egyptian Cross of Life, not only continues on the main cover, but also on the cover of the aforementioned north wall; that next to the main entrance, there are some mysterious tombs, with the strange drawing of a stem or a flower and a canterile letter (A).
That the temple of San Xulián, not only impresses because it is part of the cemetery of the town, but because of its enormous height, and that apart from the geese that are shown in one of its capitals, it continues to form, in its entirety, a whole set of mysteries, which are well worth a trip, or two, or even those that are necessary.
I could not check, however, for having to spend the night away from there, if the soul of Frey Perez, continues to appear at night, which would not surprise me, because this is Galicia and if Galicia can say something with the security of not to error, it is precisely that there, anything is possible.
I leave you with these photographs, in the assurance that a picture is worth a thousand words, and without belittling anyone's works, I strongly recommend that, if you have the opportunity to get it, you read the book of Alarcón.
