Corona Virus situation in Thailand - “Social Distancing”

March 2020 · 2 min read · Phetchaburi Province

We have seen and heard around the world, the term “social distancing” as a way to combat the Corona Virus. What is this term and what does it mean to country like Thailand where tourism is very important.

Social Distancing is simply limiting your exposure to other people, not going out, staying away from possible infection by limiting any trips where people might be.

At a restaurant here in Cha-am Thailand, that relies on tourism, the effect is dramatic. This means people do not visit from other places so you do not have people using the restaurants and other places of tourism.

This makes it very hard for business owners and workers who rely on this business. They rely on tips and customers enjoying their food so they can make a living. It’s difficult the balance in staying safe and keeping the economy going.

Finding parking spaces and road use is as low as I can ever remember. People are listening and practicing safe health practices as we all want to see this Virus stop spreading and go away.

You can go by many restaurants, but the story is the same. Maybe some take out business and away people go back to their homes.

Do you ever remember seeing the famous beaches of Thailand that are empty or have a handful of people on them.

Each street is not packed and now we have a 15 day period where people are asked to stay inside and this means people are leaving busy towns like Bangkok to go back to their villages.

What we do know is that our famous Jungle Curry can help everyone at this time. Very spicy and just the right type of comfort food to have while we go through this.

I hope all of you are keeping safe and practicing your own form of social distancing to keep you and your family safe. We pray this goes away soon and life is back to normal.
