Corona Virus Update in Thailand - Shop owners get ready

March 2020 · 2 min read · Phitsanulok

We know how Corona Virus has affected so many peoples lives all around the globe. Individuals have gotten sick, businesses have closed for 15 days (or more) and we are still in the early stages of fighting this. For small shop owners in Thailand and around the world, they need to make sure their businesses are “clean” and free of the virus as this would effect employees and customers alike.

We go to a small province in Central Thailand (Phitsanulok) and see how shop owners are cleaning with water and bleach and even working with the Military to provide a safe eating or work place.

These shops may be clean already but they are not taking any chances. They know that the virus can live on surfaces for days.

In addition, it is peace of mind for customers to come into a shop knowing that it has been clean. For each business, it has been a very hard time being closed as many live week to week.

For the community, it’s important that each support each other and by getting ready to be open is a necessary step.

What will happen when the shops do open and maybe the virus is only 90% gone? Will they still need to be as diligent in making sure their surface areas are clean? Absolutely, employees have a self interest as well in making sure all is sanitized because they are working in this environment perhaps 10 hours / day.

The Town and Province also needs assurance so that business and revenue can flow again into the community. They provide services based on the economy working and people visiting shops etc. Tourism is very big in Thailand, it’s important to present this face to visitors as well.

We hope that Thailand and other countries can work together in fighting this virus and normal life can come back over the next 3-8 weeks. Nobody really knows how long it will take. Nobody really knows how long will it take for the tourism to come back. Maybe each community is changed forever and only over time we will know the true impact to all.

Thank you for reading.
