Dutch Heritage Festival In Holland, Mich. - Tulip Time in 2021?

May 2020 · 3 min read

There was no “Tulip Time” for Holland Michigan this year as it was cancelled due to Covid 19. But it reminded me of the great time and photos last year.

  • Who knew there was such an array and festival of Tulips in Michigan? Who knew there is a Dutch “influence” in Holland Michigan — so appropriately named? Holland and other cities in the Midwest have European influences and Holland carries on the Dutch tradition with its “Dutch Heritage Festival” each year.

  • There is certainly much to do in Holland as the winter slowly fades. There are the beaches as it touches the shores of Lake Michigan, a quaint Dutch small town feel, small breweries and more, but the town attracts visitors from all over for the Festival.

  • The Veldheer Tulip Garden has rows and rows of the most spectacular Tulips in assorted colors. Veldeheers plants around 5 Million Tulip bulbs each year. The festival shows over 100,000 tulips in various gardens spanning over 36 acres of manicured gardens, dikes and canals.

  • The photos of these Tulips and colors do not do justice to the brilliance of their color and quantity. Pick a color and you will find it there.

  • Weather obviously plays a big role when Tulips bloom and our timing could not be better. They Tulips were wild open and wanted to be in our photos...so I thought.

  • If you enjoy flowers and family travel events this is definitely something to add to your list — especially if you are close by in the Midwest. There is plenty for young and old to see and enjoy.

  • I enjoyed the pink colors and was amazed at the simple beauty.

  • There is plenty for the kids who enjoy small rides in the garden.

  • The small shops are so festive with a touch of Dutch offerings.

  • The Festival is a big draw for Holland. I met people from all over and I can imagine the loss this year is a big hit to the community. Let’s hope it come back strong in 2021.

  • The men will enjoy the woodworking shops. This is better than any Home Depot, you can see how the Dutch worked with wood years ago, something that most people probably have not seen.

  • Of course you have the Wooden Shoes that Holland (Europe) is well known for. You have to get a pair of wooden shoes.

  • The good news was the crowds were just about right. There was still a little coolness in the air as the kids enjoyed the rides.

  • The connected Dutch Village has the canals and windmills to compliment the park. I don’t think I need to say, but the Dutch are also known for their beers :-)

  • The small town feel and buildings make you feel like you are in the Netherlands. This is definitely a trip for children and grandparents alike.

Thank you for reading and let’s keep our fingers crossed for next years Dutch Heritage Festival! @julee
