How many of you have ever gone to a "floating food market" before? You may ask what is it? In the US and other countries this concept is quite foreign. In other countries like my native Thailand it is a "way of life". Have you ever walked across a 100 year old wooden floating bridge before? This is the entry to the market...open daily from 9am to 6pm :-)
In the beautiful province of Suphan Buri, which is about 1 hour north of Bangkok, you can visit and experience true Thai "culture / customs" of a floating food market. This simply means various boats all go to a certain destination to sell their goods, foods and even hot local food.
The day was perfect for this one day visit for me and my family. We love having true local food and there is plenty to choose from.
People come from the area in their boats to market to sell their foods, crops and prepare food as there will be many visitors at this market.
This not Bangkok and there is not much else for a tourist to see, but that is not the main draw of this market. It is for people to buy goods / foods that they need. See the bamboo structure in the photo, they use baskets to "catch fish"...big fish. It is done inside this structure. Then you can take your fish home for cooking :-)
Each stall takes pride in what they bring to market. Prices are very fair compared to the larger city. These are local farmers as well.
It is a time they enjoy as well. They all know each other and this is a way of life and a way to make a living.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the bright colors of the umbrellas and best efforts to provide a nice shopping area.
Plenty of "fresh food" and veggies. You will most certainly have a nice variety of delicious Thai food.
You can imagine how each prepares their goods and travels by boat to offer what they have for that day.
You can certainly eat on site and it was delicious. I had delicious noodles that day and brought home some for my family as well.
You want fresh. This fresh and so good. Nothing like local Thai food made well.
I also had Pad Thai. It looks different than how it is prepared in your local US Thai Restaurant. They use the right ingredients, let me tell you!
You may have seen these floating markets in the large city of Bangkok. For me, it's not the same as being in the country and having the local food of Central Thailand.
