Today we will talk about the area "April 10", which is located in the Primorsky district of Odessa. It received its name in honor of the liberation of the city from the Nazi and Romanian invaders. Let me remind you that the city was liberated just the same on April 10, 1944. This is where one of the most famous characters of the hero city of Odessa is located.
History reference
The square itself appeared in the mid-1980s. It was planned as an important urban denouement. As a result of the construction of the square, a new street appeared: Genoese. It was named after the twin city of Odessa. I note that the Pearl became related to this city in 1972.
It is located at the intersection of Shevchenko Avenue and such streets as Genoese, Pionerskaya and Chernyakhovsky. In close proximity is Victory Park.
The square is the youngest. At the same time, it is the second largest. The length is more than 200, and the width is more than 80 meters.
The main attractions of the square
In honor of the fortieth anniversary of the liberation of Odessa from the Nazi and Romanian invaders in the square, in 1984 the obelisk "Wings of Victory" was established. The stele itself was made of gray marble. She was crowned by a golden star. It is carried by symbolic warriors who defeated fascism. The stele was created by architects Mironenko, Korogod and Shinkarenko. The sculptor was Konishchev.
It is interesting that thanks to the stele, in 1965 Odessa was given the status of Hero City. Although, Odessa defended itself to the last. In order not to surrender the city, Odessa would have survived and would not have come under occupation. An inscription is engraved on the obelisks, which informs everyone and everything that the city has been given the status of a hero. In addition, the names of Odessa heroes of the Soviet Union are immortalized on the stele.
In addition to the obelisk, there is a large anchor. Next we see the numbers: "1945". That is, the year of victory over fascism. It was to him that I paid maximum attention now. Few people talk about him, so I photographed him from different angles.
How to get there
As mentioned above, the area is located on Shevchenko Avenue. Accordingly, you can get here by various minibuses. For example, No: 9, 115, 137, 146 and so on. You can get here by trolleybus number 5, 7 and 9.
During the celebration of Victory Day and the Liberation Day of the city, it is here that one of the main events of the city is held.
