Joyama Hiking Course

Joyama Hiking Course

March 2021 · 2 min read · Izunokuni

Today, I went hiking up to the top of Joyama mountain in Izu and then round in a big loop, to Yuhi waterfall and back along the road to Ohito, where I had parked my bike.
I live in Mishima city now. So its only an hour cycle to Ohito and from there its pretty easy to find the entrance to the hiking course, if you have a hiking map that is. If you don't have a bicycle, its about a 20 minute walk from Ohito station to the start of the course.
Going up, the trail separates into two. One for walkers (me), the other for climbers. The mountain is sheer, so there was no way I was going the climbing route. I got to the top in about 40 minutes where you can see a pretty good view.

The wild cherry blossoms were all out in the mountains and also along the way to the mountain there were some in flower too. It finally warmed up in Shizuoka about 2 weeks ago and life is quickly coming out all over the place.
Carrying on back down the mountain to the main hiking path, I carried on in a big loop around another mountain, until, finally, I reached a temple and the road. Its name is Mashiyama Temple. There was no one around. It was a quiet out of the way spot.

Taking a quick detour took me to Yuhi waterfall, where there's some really distinctive Izu volcanic rocks which the water falls over.
After this, I carried on back down to Ohito, past some nice cherry blossoms and cycled back to Mishima with a quick stop of at Gusto, a cheap family restaurant.

This was a very nice day. There wara hardly any people around, it was a Monday, and with some interesting mountains and things to see, its worth a hike.
