At the weekend, we went to Ryugashido Cavern, near Hamamatsu.
Its a little of the beaten path, so you really need a car to get there.
The ticket price is 1000 yen, its pretty expensive, but worth it.
A century ago, the only visitors to the cavern were bats. In the 1980s a Japanese man started to open up the caves and soon after, in the bubble economy, a pretty big welcome center, with restaurants, souvenir shops, illuminations and a small museum were built. Now, in 2020, nothing has really changed that much since then. The buildings could use a lick of paint, but apart from that are pretty interesting.
Anyway, the cavern itself, which is the point of this article.
The cavern is made of limestone and has many interesting features.
The good thing about this cavern is that someone has taken the time to name a lot of these formations, which maintain interest during the walk through. The caves are in a elongated u shape and took us about 45 minutes to walk through.

and many more. Its well worth going there if you have a car and like caves, its one of the best ive seen in Japan, actually, I think its the best in the country that ive seen so far.
I think there is a bus from the local railway station, but it does take a long time to get to from Hamamatsu Station, because Hamamatsu is a big city and encompases a lot of countryside as well. So definitely by car!
