Easter Motor ride on the KTM

Easter Motor ride on the KTM

April 2019 · 3 min read

The weather is perfect, the weekend is free, the motorcycle awaits. It was time for a decent ride around the Central Schweiz region!

'Wait Karin, you ride motorcycle as well? Cooooool, you are a biker chick'

No, I am not actually. I don't have a license and I don't really intend to get my license as well, but on the other hand.... days like this one do make me rethink that decision every now and then, hahaha.

So I was just the passenger in this ride, and to be honest, I don't really mind it. Being the passenger is still enjoying all the views, but without the hassle of being super alert all the time. Best of both worlds right? ;)

It felt like half of the world was outside the weekend because of the extended days off around Easter weekend. Also I saw the first traffic jams already on the news on Friday morning around the Gottharttunnel (and the pass over it isn't open as yet due to snow closure), on the way to Italy, so riding to Italy was certainly out of the question

After winning in some information from my colleagues about best routes here in the region, and checking on what kind of highland passes were all open, this became the route. Travelling South West in the direction of Entlebuch but the over the Rengg Pass, setting the route planner on most adventurous routes, driving over weird small roads, enjoying to the fullest! Instead of following the main road in the Bern direction, we travelled over the Schangnau area in the direction of Thun, where the small lake district of the Berner Oberland starts.

A long stop at the Thuner See made me realise how bad I want to hit the water, either with a paddleboat, a sailing boat or a whatever boat. It is time for barbequeing and summer is really on my mind by now hahahahha.

Following the Thuner See to Interlaken, and the Brienzer See after that was also just awesome beauty and candy for the eye of the beholder. That is also the cool thing about riding the motorcycle, just as you have with a normal bike. When you see a nice spot, you just decide to throw yourself down in there and take a realxing moment, without needing any big parking spots.

And it can turn out that you just find a beautiful place in the grass a little bit up a hill in someones grassland, where you take the time for a rest and a stretch of the legs. (because really, with motorcycling, you just need to stretch the legs every now and then)

Continuing the Brienzer See and up the Brünig Pass all of a sudden we needed to make a serious elevation risen of about 400 meters in 5/10 minutes which was cold all of a sudden, but that made us come back over the Lungern See (I was there a couple weeks back, and STILL it had low water levels, same as then), following the Sarner See and back to the Vierwaldstätter See on the road to Lucerne.

You know what you have deserved then?? A nice cold beer with a view after a ride like that. Cheers!!
