Lungernsee, the dry version!

Lungernsee, the dry version!

March 2019 · 2 min read

Last summer I had the pleasure already to visit this fine lake called the Lungernsee, that loads of tourists find beautiful enough to travel days and hours for. For me this is just half an hour drive away from the city of Lucerne, or 1.5 hour of a bikeride, as I did last summer.

With some friends visiting and beautiful spring wetter we decided to walk a lap around the lake, which is about 10 kilometers. But it looked totally different this time from my memory!

At the first sight, still utter beauty! The water color is still pristine and with the snowy mountain tops on the background and some parapenters here and there this is the Alps at its finest.

But when you look closer you can see that the lake currently has a super low waterlevel. Not so much percipitation over the last couple of weeks, with the combination of that not all the snow has melted yet makes it seem that half of the lake is missing

Here you can see it a lot better of that what still needs to be filled by the mountains itself before the lake is ready for the summer tourism again. This side of the lake is a camping spot and now the clay mud you have to walk through to reach the water is more like quicksand than anything else pleasant.

Nevertheless, a walk around the lake is still stunning! Waterfalls are coming out of all kinds of small areas. To me the sound of running water is always such a good nature feeling, and I also saw that some of the cows are already starting to come outside again from their winterhabitat. Spring is here!

Just feeling the sun on the face again and seeing all of the fishermen catching forels in the lake and instantly preparing them for on the grill was such a vibe of vacation. I love it that for a feeling of vacation I only need to go just around the corner. I will surely be back in a couple of weeks ready to catch some fish and grill when the lake if more filled up
