This train ride is the cherry on top of my Austria trip

March 2019 · 4 min read

For the past 2 hours I have been in this fantastic train drooling outside at the most fantastic views that I am seeing along the way in the Salzburger and Tiroler land. I am on my way home towards Luzern again but this trip in the Panorama train is worth a visit on itself

A Panorama train?? Hell yeah!! A train with extra wide and high windows so you have a better view of what is happening outside of you. The most coolest thing ever, and this really should be implemented in every train that goes through big landscapes. How on earth did I end up in this? Well easy actually, I am a discount hunter when it comes to travelling, and for some reason the tickets for this ultra cool train first class were cheaper than the second class. You would be a fool not to take it, right?

Well this train ride was also starting to feel like a trip down memory lane, because it passed through so many small towns which I have visited either years ago and just recently. I am gonna put up a whole series of dirty images taken from a train (thanks for the inspiration from your series back in the days @soyrosa) which might not seem so special to you guys, but hey what do I care….I am using this as a sort of diary post today :D

Earlier in the week we went skiing in the Hochkönig region and we needed to get there by car. Passing the Pongau-Tal crossing the river there we also crossed the train line which I already had expected that I would be travelling over that same rail. The valleys following the river were narrow and the views were fantastic!

Quickly after that the train reached Zell am See which most of yall skiing fans might know there, passing Saalfelden and entering Leogang. Leogang started to ring some bells because I went there night-sleighriding just a couple weeks ago when I was staying in Fieberbrunn which we also passed. It was cool to see Fieberbrunn from the same train which I saw passing by every time while we were staying there.

My friend thinks we were staying in the circle in Fieberbrunn, but uhhhhh...I dont actually see a house there.

The Streif, THE competition slope of Kitzbühl

Moving on passing Kitzbühl, where I had this amazing flashback of a trip back to there years ago when we drove an allnighter so we were in time for the Hahnenkammrennen, the world most famous downhill skiing competition. Tired A-F and trying to keep ourselves awake that morning the vibe during this skiing race was indescribable, you should really go there once if you ever have the change.

In that same trip as to Kitzbühl we stayed the whole week in Kirchberg, which I didn't take any pictures of. Honestly I do not remember so much about that trip, so it means that it wasn’t the most impressing one I have ever made. Nevertheless it was still supercool to pass by the town here.

Moving along the road we passed Brixem in Thale and Westendorf will @smasssh will surely have all kinds of stories about. I’ve never been in this region before, but it looked as a nice stop as well actually. See how this was almost sightseeing in the train?

Here are some nice random shots from just cool stuff that I saw along the way.

It was just crazy how big the amount of snow was that was still everywhere. The end of January snowfall was still lasting strong in this region and again next week it will start to dump here again. Crazy almost right? You can understand the amount of problems that all of these towns had getting rid of all this snow to make normal life function again. Well I can tell you a lot of people were also ‘just’ enjoying it, for instance these langlaufers I saw along the way. I really need to start learning this, it seems like the perfect workout hahahahah.

Bottomline, if you ever have the chance: Try to book the Panorama train from Graz to Innsbruck if you want a fantastic trainride in full relaxation!
