San Sebastian, a beautiful Spanish town on the island of Gomera - one of the Canary Islands.

I've always wanted to go somewhere warm, when it's winter in my country and the temperatures are mostly low. Somewhere where the water in the sea or the ocean is pleasantly warm at that time and you can swim in it. Somewhere where you can walk in shorts or dresses rather than in thick jackets, a hat and gloves.

A few years ago, I was able to make my dream come true. In February, when it was winter in my country, I went to Gomera, the lesser known Canary Island, which is located next to Tenerife. After a few hours of flight, I went outside and was able to enjoy the sun and warm temperature. But it was a wonderful feeling. Get away from the cold, into the embrace of summer ;) At least I felt as if it was summer, because in calendar terms it was winter all the time.

I landed in Tenerife and took the ferry to Gomera. Together with my friend, we rented a house here. A cottage with a wonderful view of the city - San Sebastian, the capital of the island and the bay to which several ferries sailed daily.

San Sebastian is a lovely little town. It has a harbor, colorful houses, beautiful beaches. There is also the house where Columbus stayed before going to the New World. At the same time, there are not as many tourists here as in the nearby Tenerife or in other Canary Islands.

The house we rented was in the upper part of the city. Whether I was going to the beach or to the shops, or the wonderful fruit market - I went shopping down stairs, narrow corridors. It was also a fun experience. I could see the roofs of the houses from above and had a wonderful view of the bay. I was able to watch from home how the ferries entered the bay and what was happening in the city.

I liked the colorful houses of the people living here, the colorful doors. I felt a lot of positive energy flowing from this place. In addition, the inhabitants of the island were usually smiling and happy, it also made the time spent on the island more pleasant. The only thing that bothered me a bit at first was that not many people spoke English, including in shops. But it soon became an advantage. I had the opportunity to learn Spanish. In a few days I mastered the most needed phrases and was able to get along with the Spaniards from Gomera :)

In the center of San Sebastian's beautiful old town is a historical church.

Built in stages, dating back to a small shrine of mud and stones from the fifteenth century. We must highlight the first building façade; its origin goes back to Portugal and is called „Manueline“ style, with ogee archs and ropes intertwined. In the eighteenth century it was enlarged with two aisles. There is a museum of religious art inside, where we must highlight the artwork from the sixteenth to the nineteenth. Of special interest is the chapel of El Pilar, with its mural painting alluding to the battle against the English pirate Charles Windham in 1753.

I climbed this path every day on my way back to my rented apartment. In many places the stairs or climbs were steep. I felt a bit like walking in the mountains.
