Great view along the St Kilda Pier

November 2019 · 3 min read · Victoria

Me in front of a great scenery ;)

Now on my account here will be a slightly longer series of posts about Melbourne. Actually we spent two full weeks at the beginning of our trip in this big city. Melbourne was the first city we met in Australia, and thus on a completely different continent at the other end of the world. At the beginning we also had our starting difficulties and realized only gradually that we were actually in Australia. We also had our first experiences with hostels and Airbnb accommodations in Melbourne. I'll tell you about that later.

One of our first sightseeings went to St. Kilda Pier. We drove there from our airbnb accommodation, which was unfortunately very far out, about one hour by train. The day we were there it was partly rainy, but it was ok.

The popular St. Kilda Pier

At the pier you can relax and if you look between the boulders, you can also discover the cute penguins during the day if you're lucky. We did not see them that day, but maybe that was because we relaxed in a nice cafe for a long time;)

What really appealed to us: from the pier you can look over great sailing boats and yachts over to the other mainland of Melbourne and admire the great skyline there. It is really a great place to take pictures. Right on the pier there are boats, stand-up paddlers and many other water sports activities to watch. At the end of the pier there is a nice cafe with nice staff. A nice place to rest and enjoy the view. Although the pier was great, I would recommend you if you should be there to put it on your daily list if you are ever close. In the immediate vicinity there is, for example, the Luna Park, a kind of leisure park for children and teenies but also adults. What you should pay attention to at the park: Even if you do not use the attractions there, you have to pay at the gate.

As always I would be very happy about an upvote or a comment. Soon there will be more posts about Melbourne - I really wanted to do some posts about the city here, also because it was our very first city on our long journey and we spent a lot of time there.

Oh yeah and what we can recommend to anyone: if it is possible we would recommend to visit the pier at sunset, then there is an even better atmosphere!
