My photo story of autumn--Yongbulakang/

September 2018 · 3 min read · Shannan

I have been to Shannan City, Tibet several years ago. We had scheduled to visit Yongbulakang for a while and then returned to Shannan. But it was excited by what we saw when we got there. We immediately decided to stay here for a night to take some photos for the sunset and sunrise.

In the beginning, just a quick overview the Yongbulakang temple. Yongbulakang was built in the Mount Zhaxiciri that locate at south of Shannan city. The distance is about 11 kilometers from Shannan city. The pronounce of 'Yongbu' means ‘doe'. The Mount Zhaxiciri looks like a doe. So it got the name 'Yongbu'. 'ciri' means 'temple'. It's the first palace and the first historic architecture of Tibet. It was built in 2nd century BC. Srongtsen Gampo a famous historical figure who unified Tibet changed it to a temple. His wife princess Wen Chen of Tang Dynasty and he used to live here every summer in the beginning of their marriage.

We could see the Yongbulakang temple at first when we got to the place. The building in the above pictures is the Yongbulakang Temple. The pictures and the below pictures were taken by me. The road up the hill is steep. A number of local and non-local Tibetan people have came here to make pilgrimages. It looks the sky so blue and transparent because the high altitude and without air pollution.

We could see the first farmland it calls Sodang from the top of Mount Zhaxiciri. The first Tibetan king Nyatri Tsenpo of that year stood on the top of this mountain and overlooking these good farmland and people at the foot of the mountain. The magnificent view of the Yarlung valley is all around. He needed both to prevent the encroachment of other tribes and to prevent the onslaught of wild yaks. This place was the best choice for the king Nyatri Tsenpo.

Leaves of poplar on the side of field and on the side of road turned into yellow in deep autumn. The highland barley had already been harvested. The farmers were digging up the soil so that they can continue farming next year. Despite about 2100 years of history, the local Tibetan people still retain a good tradition of diligence.

The intensity of the sun's ray waning when sunset. We climbed up to the top of Mount Zhaxiciri again and overlooked the golden poplar interlaced between the fields. It's so beautiful and peaceful.

In the next morning we climbed up the top of mountain again. The first rays of sunlight shine from the side to the village in the beautiful Yarlung valley. This is first village of Tibet. Its name is Yarlung Soka. Tibet people sowed the first highland barley here before about 2100 years ago. The first farmland of Tibet was reclaimed here.
