If you are a first-time traveller to London, you might be getting lost or confused on their airport, and you never assume London only has one international airport, in fact, London itself has five international airports with two major airports which are Heathrow and Gatwick. The others minor three are Stansted, Luton and London City Airport
London usually is a European transport hub, therefore you ought to know the London airports especially you involve immediate transit. My friend personally facing issue while taking a flight to London and need to transit to Budapest with Wizz, one of the budget airline. The first arrival was Heathrow Airport, she thought the same connection also in Heathrow, unfortunately without knowing that the departure of Wizz Airline actually at London Luton Airport, she did miss the flight.
Therefore, it is extremely important to differential all the London Airport and recognizes their airport code as well.
London Heathrow (LHR)
Located 32km to the west London central, it is one of the busiest airports in the world which serves major airline including Malaysia Airline (MAS). There are total five terminals. There are variants of public transport connection to the city including tube, bus and express train.
London Gatwick (LGW)
Even it is a bit far from the downtown (around 50km southeast of London), Gatwick Airport is the second largest airport in London. It only has two terminals which are south and north, both terminals can be connected by monorail without charge. Most of the people will take the regional train to the city centre, otherwise, you can ride Gatwick Express which only need 30 minutes to London Victoria with online fare for one way cost £17.80.
You can ride a train from Gatwick to London Bridge Station
London Stansted Airport (STN)
Many budget airlines offer cheap flights fly from Stansted to other major European cities. Obviously, it is far from London as located 65km northeast from there. However, they do offers quickest Stansted Express which takes approximately 50 minutes to London Liverpool Street Station.

If you plenty time then you can consider Terravision. I personally have experience with this low-cost coach directly to London Victoria Coach Station. As the bus drive into the west to the east direction of London, it will pass by many London Attractions including O2, Canary Wharf, London Tower, London Eye, Parliament, Big Ben then to Victoria.
Obviously you can see the giant London Eye from bus
London Luton Airport (LTN)
It is the fourth-largest airport, however, my personal recommend try to avoid this airport if you are using public transport with big luggage. There does not have any direct train to London City as you have to take a shuttle bus from the airport to Luton Airport Parkway Rail Station. There will be a train from the station to St Pancras International Rail Station or London Blackfriars which both located at London city centre.
