Beautiful Sunday and Sublime Sunday for art lovers at Session Road, Baguio City

December 2019 · 3 min read

The city was once again attacked! By art lovers of course.

Every Sunday, the upgoing lane of Session Road is closed to vehicles. Different activities were held every Sunday, afterwhich the road is then turned into a sketch pad for everyone to write or draw and express their artistry.

This activity was started a few months back. We have done it before but not this extensive. Since then, every Sunday the city is looking forward to this.

Vehicles were re-routed to give for this day-long event. Aside from encouraging creativity, this is one way of urging all to walk and exercise more or even just once a week.

I appreciate how inclusive this event is. All walks of life are invited and encouraged to participate. Of all, I like how kinds are exposed to this. As we all know, it is extremely important for us to let young minds open up to being creative. We need minds who are able to think outside of the box and open our minds to possibilities.

Every week we see various lovely drawings circulated online. Naturally, it is Christmas themed this day.

Some brought their own chalks while others bought from sellers on the road. You can also buy from the stores along Session. I even saw others giving their chalks to others once they were done with their drawings.

Freedom of expression can be seen here, within the bounds of positive and kid friendly aspects. Who knows? Maybe we will find our next Picasso or Van Gogh here in the city.

While everyone is busy in the road, final preparation for the lighting of the city's giant Christmas tree is being done. The tree used to be at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park but the city decided to set up a different style of man-made tree at the Session Road rotunda.

Additional lights were also set along the island of Session Road. I can't wait to see how it will look like. It's a good day to be busy along Session Road.

What started as an experiment for a few months, has been extended until this month. I hope the city will decide to make a permanent event instead. This is beneficial to everyone. It gives the city something to look forward to. The road is at the heart of Baguio City so it is accessible and convenient to everyone.
