Taxila Museum is located at Taxila, Punjab. Taxila Museum is an old and well maintained museum having the artifact collection of Gandhara art dating from the 1st to 7th century. The objects displayed in the museum are collected mostly from the ruins of ancient city of Taxila which is dated back to 600 or 700 BC. Taxila is also included in (UNESCO) World heritage sites.
Taxila is an archaeological site located in Rawalpindi.The history of Taxila dates back to the Gandhara period and contains the ruins of the Gandhāran city of Takṣaśilā. Takṣaśilā was an important Hindu and Buddhist center at that time and is still considered a holy and historical place. A large number of Buddhist worshipers still visit this place and come all the way from Japan, Thailand, India and other countries.
The construction of Taxila museum started in 1918 and the museum was opened for public in 1928. Sir John Marshall (1876 - 1958) Director General of the Archaeological survey of India excavated Taxila from 1913 to 1934.
In Taxila Museumevery section is very well maintained. There is a mud pottery section in which you can see different pots and mud crockery used by those people. You can also see an water condenser made by these people. They also used many tools for harvesting and some tools for construction.
Some very special things are also on display in Taxila Museum. First thing is a wall showing the history of this city as this city was rebuilt several times. So every layer shows the history of different era. Then there is an Aramaic language inscription which was the oldest language. Then a stupa, a religious symbol showing the seven earths and seven skies are also displayed.

This Museum is huge and is having an object of one of the oldest civilization ever lived. In my next post I will try to show you some other interesting things found in this area like jewelry, beads, gold and silver coins and different Buddha statues. In future when we are free from corona virus I will try to visit these ruins one by one and will show you the old places where these people lived.
