Ferris Wheel

April 2019 · 2 min read · Taichung

The last time that I went on a ferris wheel was the London Eye in UK well over ten years. In fact, as far as I can remember that's the only time I've been on a ferris wheel. I always think ferris wheels are for tourists. My London Eye ride was because my mum and sister came to visit me in London back then.

In my current home town Taichung, we have two ferris wheels, including one that claims to be the tallest in Taiwan. The other one is at an outlet mall .

Like skyscrapers , I think ferris wheels looks much better from the outside rather than inside out. At Mitsui, everything has a cargo theme because it is located by the local cargo port. I love how they have used cargo containers to create a boundary around the ramp going up towards the wheel.

Sunset is the best backdrop to take great photos of ferris wheels - if you're a good photographer. Here are my first couple of attempts, racing against time during those few precious moments.

It was so difficult to take decent photos of the sunset. Then I saw this reflection from the window.

Or how about an inspiration from the famous Penny Black in England? What do you think of the Sunset LUT?

By the the time the sun had totally disappeared , the colourful lights had come out. That's the best thing I love about the ferris-wheel at Mitsui. My phone is flooded with these colourful photos now. As to whether they're good or not, let's just say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder .
