After our epic New Years Party in Phuket we relaxed one day at the beach and planned to go to the islands next. So first we we had a big goodbye breakfast with @daveonarrival enjoying great food and smoothies trying to get detoxed after the big party.
From there we took a taxi to the harbor and a ferry to our first Island: Kho Phi Phi.
The boat ride was really relaxing and we enjoyed being on deck, getting some tan and drinking a few beers.
Coming closer we already could see the rock formations, that make Thailand and its islands so famous.
Phi Phi was initially populated by Muslim fishermen during the late-1940s, and later became a coconut plantation. The resident population is between 2,000 and 3,000 people.
It got really famous when Ko Phi Phi Le was used as a location for the 2000 British-American film "The Beach". Also in 2004 the Indian Ocean tsunami destroyed nearly all of the island's infrastructure.
Today it is really touristy and very interesting for snorkelers and divers because of its beautiful corals and marine life.
Arriving at the harbor we walked to our hostel to get a first impression. The streets are really busy and the beach is beautiful.
After leaving our stuff at the hostel we went to see the ocean and had our first bucket at the beach. Depending on ebb and flow it is super big and the boats are in the sand, or its smaller and easy to access ;)
Soon it started to get darker. We enjoyed the nice sunset and went to sleep early, because we had booked a half day snorkel tour from really early in the morning.
The sun just came up when we got to the harbor for our trip. It looked awesome, but also really cloudy, cause what we didn't know was, that the big storm was already on its way to us.
We were promised to discover the beauty of Koh Phi Phi's famous spots with this half day snorkeling tour. It was way better to go in the morning while its still wasn't crowded at these spots, because the boats from Krabi and Phuket wouldn't have arrived yet.
So we went on the boat at 7 am and where brought to the Shark Point, Monkey Beach, Pi-Leh Bay, Maya Bay, and Loh Samah Bay - each stop famous for their crystal clear waters, fantastic beaches, and interesting marine life.
The half day tour is short and sweet, perfect for those who don't have enough time on their hands but want to see the beauty of the islands!
First we went to Shark Point to see little sharks in their natural environment and also use the time to snorkel a bit and see other beautiful fish.
It was fun to snorkel there, but a few of our fellow travelers seemed to have some problem with it, which was really funny :D
After that we went to Monkey Beach, Pi-Leh Bay, Maya Bay, Loh Samah Bay and enjoyed just being on the boat and getting tan ;)
The water was really clear and we enjoyed our time!

Both tours end with a relaxing cruise back to the pier just in time to catch the sunset.
So this was our first day at Kho Phi Phi, just before the big storm was gonna hit us, coming from Kho Samui. - But more about that on my next post, so stay tuned!
